In the modern world, "improvisation" is a term that has long gone beyond creativity. It is found in cooking and on television, in jurisdictions and even in science. What is the meaning of this word? How to decipher it and from which side is best viewed?
General interpretation
The term "improvisation" is a modified Latin word improviso, which translates as "without preparation". This is how they characterize the technique of creativity, in which the creation and execution of a certain idea is carried out simultaneously. Sometimes a specific theme is chosen for improvisation, which helps the author to direct his efforts in a certain direction. Well, it also happens that improvisation is created without any stylistic restrictions.
This term is widely used in all areas of creativity: in painting and sculpture, in music and literature, in dances, ballets and operas. Recently, improvisation has migrated into everyday life and has become an integral part of almost allspheres of human activity.
Improvisation in music
All musicians from their school days are well aware of a certain composing technique. The bottom line is that in the exam you need to fulfill your creation, composing it literally right away. Often, teachers set the theme and even determine the musical form - a piece, nocturne, rondo, sonata, etc. You can also choose the key in which you need to play improvisation, tempo and number of bars.
Such clear boundaries are usually set for students who are weak in composition, but it is not difficult for them to masterfully perform an already written work. If a student has creative skills, the conditions under which he needs to compose become much less. And it is worth emphasizing separately that musical improvisation is an ephemeral thing, it cannot be repeated or remembered. The only way to capture such a composition is through audio and video recordings.
Painting and sculpture
These types of art are already material, that is, they can be felt and considered. Therefore, the essence of pictorial improvisation lies in the fact that the artist draws without a sketch, without preliminary sketches and without drafts. As in music, here they can set a certain topic, or they can miss this moment.
The result is a picture that does not quite accurately convey proportions, shadows and colors, but it frankly demonstrates to the public the mood of its author and his state of mind. Some believe improvisation on canvas is the origin of styles such as Impressionism and Expressionism.
Literature and rhetoric
A best-selling author always has the opportunity to throw away a draft, correct his text and correct errors. His colleague, who improvises on paper, has no such privilege. The main task is to use one attempt to write a story, article, poem, etc. correctly, concisely and on the topic
A similar requirement is for speakers who speak to the public. They can no longer focus on a sheet with a pre-prepared text, as they have to coherently and intelligibly explain this or that issue to the public, relying solely on their logic and eloquence. Of course, in this case, the best improvisation is a prepared improvisation, consisting of facts and truths that you can rely on. Therefore, many representatives of such professions take this statement into service, remember all the most basic, and the rest is applied along the way.
Theater and cinema
For many actors, improvisation is an integral part of creativity. They play, composing on the go in the frame and on stage, thus making the picture truly brilliant. This feature is often attributed to Hollywood stars - Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Nicholson and many others. What can we say about Hollywood, if suchthe art form was a success in ancient Rome! It was there that the actors first began to "arbitrarily" on stage, voicing not only their own dialogues, but also inventing new events that change the course of the script.
Modern dance
Dancing without any special preparation is a talent not given to everyone, so a genre called “contact improvisation” was created on its basis. This is a special kind of modern dance in which there is a certain point of contact with a partner.
Both participants in this action continuously touch each other, but constantly shift their point of contact. In parallel, they make improvisational movements to the music, rolling over each other, performing plies, jumps and other tricks.
In order to perform contact improvisation, it is not necessary to have a stretch or master any technique. You just have to feel the music and your partner, as well as visually imagine how this or that figure that you are going to portray will look from the side.
You may have already realized that you can improvise anytime, anywhere: in the kitchen, inventing new recipes, at work, doing it differently than usual, and in everyday conversations with people around you.
