Oriental studies is a special topic that requires a person to have relevant knowledge and decent life experience. In Russia, one of those who understands very well all the ups and downs and peculiarities of the Middle Eastern countries is Evgeny Yanovich Satanovsky. We will talk about his life and career in the article.
Birth and family
A well-known analyst today was born in Moscow on June 15, 1959, in a family of intellectuals. The father of our hero - Yan Efimovich - was an outstanding Soviet engineer. It was he who owned the idea of creating a method of continuous casting of steel, which is used in industry in our time. Of course, the man earned quite decently for that time and was a member of the so-called "engineering elite". Evgeny Yanovich's mother, Alexandra Lvovna, was an excellent linguist, but she chose to devote herself to her husband and children.
Childhood and education
Evgeny Satanovsky in the early years of his life was often ill and therefore missed classes at school. In fairness, it should be noted that he studied very well and even managed to pass exams externally in the fourth grade and immediately go to the sixth, bypassing the fifth. The young man read a lot, paid special attentionhistory and ethnography. Evgeny Satanovsky dreamed of becoming a student at Moscow State University, but in the end he continued the family tradition and at the age of sixteen, after graduating from high school, entered the Institute of Steel and Alloys.
The student years turned out to be very fruitful for the then young Yevgeny, as he quickly comprehended the educational material and managed to actively participate in public life. In particular, he was the head of the detachment of the squad, which provided assistance to police officers in matters of detention of offenders. Satanovsky also went in for sports - he attended the karate section. During the period of industrial practice, he traveled half the country and visited the largest metallurgical enterprises of the state.
Labor detail
After graduating from high school, Evgeny Satanovsky, whose biography is of interest to many today, became an employee of Gipromez, where his father and brother also worked. Initially, the salary of a young specialist was not too high, but there were prospects for career advancement ahead. But the death of his father changed everything overnight.
The young man began to experience financial difficulties and therefore was forced to change his desk job to the hot shop of an enterprise called Hammer and Sickle. For four years of work in very difficult conditions, Eugene not only strengthened physically, but also tempered his character. After accumulating the required amount of money and life experience, Satanovsky managed to found a trading metallurgical group called Ariel. Having received financialindependence, Yevgeny Yanovich eventually got an excellent opportunity to do what he wanted - science.
Own brainchild
At the dawn of the 90s, when cardinal changes were taking place in the country, the Russian decided to create an institute dedicated to the study of Israel. For two years it has brought together leading experts in the field of oriental studies, as well as international analysts and political scientists. Over time, this center was renamed the Institute of the Middle East, and Yevgeny Yanovich, since 1993, has been its full and permanent head since 1993.
In 1999, a man within the walls of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences successfully defended his dissertation in economics and received a PhD.
About working with Jews
In 1995, Evgeny Satanovsky, in tandem with Vladimir Gusinsky, became more active in the creation of the Russian Jewish Congress. In the period 2001-2004, the hereditary metallurgist served as president of this public organization. In this post, he replaced Leonid Nevzlin. Prior to receiving the highest post in Congress, Satanovsky was vice president and was responsible for science, sports, culture, charity, and education.
On the basis of Moscow State University, Evgeny headed the Department of Israeli Studies, lectured on geopolitics and economics of the Middle East region. Also, the man was a teacher at MGIMO and the Jewish University of Moscow.
Until 2012, Evgeny Satanovsky was a member of the council responsible for monitoring and coordinating activities in the quarterlymagazine.
A political scientist is very often invited as a speaker and expert at a variety of numerous scientific conferences. In addition, he works at the Vesti FM radio station in tandem with Sergei Korneevsky and hosts the program “From Two to Five”, which is beloved by the audience. Also, our hero is regularly invited by Vladimir Solovyov, on whose television shows there are fierce debates, the most pressing issues of our time are discussed. It was at the suggestion of Solovyov that a native of an engineer's family received a sonorous and very capacious nickname Armageddonich.
Personal work
Evgeny Satanovsky (his books are published in large editions) is regularly published by publishing houses. The following works belong to his pen: "Would you go …", "If I were the Russian Tsar", "The Cauldron of Troubles" and others.
In 2017, an orientalist, in collaboration with a well-known representative of Israel, diplomat Yakov Kedmi, wrote the book "Dialogues", which examined in detail the most pressing issues of current world politics. In addition, the Russian published the Fool's Notebooks, where relations between the Russian Federation and other states were described as clearly as possible.
Marital status
Satanovsky Yevgeny Yanovich has been happily married to his wife Maria for more than three decades. The professor does not get tired of repeating regularly that for him the family is the most important and greatest value in life, and nothing material can compare with peace andunderstanding in the home. The couple gave birth and raised a daughter and a son. Also, the writer is already a grandfather: he has three grandchildren.
Interesting fact
Despite a very sonorous and ambiguous surname, in life Yevgeny Yanovich is a very benevolent person and, as he himself claims, compassionate. And the surname has nothing to do with the biblical character, but comes from the name of the settlement Satanov, which is located in the Khmelnitsky region (Ukraine).
