The city of Rudny (Kazakhstan) is the brainchild of the Soviet Union. In 1955, according to the decision of the Meeting of Ministers of the USSR in Kazakhstan, the construction of a mining and processing plant began on the basis of the Sokolovsky and Sarbaisky deposits of magnetite ore. Enthusiasts came from all over the country on Komsomol vouchers to build the most powerful enterprise in the USSR. Initially, Rudny was given the status of a settlement. And in 1957 it became a city of regional subordination.
Now it is a large industrial and cultural center. The population of the city in 2014 was 128 thousand people. It has a large length and relatively shallow depth, it is filled mainly in the spring months. Fishing is developed here. About 50 tons of fish are caught annually in the Karatomar reservoir.
