Mikhail Verbitsky is not only a famous Russian mathematician. He is also a blogger and is known by an Internet user under the nickname Tiphareth. What is included in the circle of interests of our hero? How did his career develop? What is the blog of mathematician Mikhail Verbitsky about? Read about it in our article.

Childhood and student years

The biography of Mikhail Verbitsky begins on June 20, 1969. A native of Moscow from childhood showed outstanding mathematical abilities, so his parents assigned him to the mathematical class of school No. 57. Later, the talented boy was transferred to school No. 91, where he also studied the exact sciences. However, the boy Misha dreamed of being a philologist, not a mathematician.

At the insistence of his parents, he entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the prestigious university of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov. Mikhail Verbitsky was far from being an exemplary student. He was expelled from the university twice. This is despite the fact that he already had a number of scientific papers behind him. In particular, in the late 1980s he tried to date his own proof of the theoremBogomolov expansions.

Verbitsky failed to get an education in his homeland, and he went to America for knowledge.

During the year (from 1990 to 1991) he attended classes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Then he entered Harvard, where he successfully completed graduate school.

In 1995, mathematician Mikhail Verbitsky defended his dissertation and received a PhD in mathematics (Doctor of Science).

It was at that time that our hero fell in love with social networks. Rather, he mastered Usenet (there was no Internet as such then). The ability to create printed text without censorship and receive responses from outsiders captivated Mikhail Verbitsky so much that it became an integral part of his life.

Professional activities

After receiving his degree, Mikhail Sergeevich Verbitsky got a job (in 1996) at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study, where he worked until 1997.

At the same time, he began teaching at the Independent Moscow University.

In 1999, in collaboration with Dmitry Kaledin, Mikhail Verbitsky published the book Hyperkaehler manifolds, in which he opposes copyright.

Since 2002, our hero has been an employee of the University of Glasgow. In parallel with this, in 2003-2010, Mikhail Sergeevich taught at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics.

However, he lectured to students in Tokyo in 2008.

And since 2010 he has been working at the Faculty of Mathematics of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.

Culturology class

When studying the biography of Mikhail Verbitsky, one gets the impression that he does everything in spite of. The scientist is prone to oppositional statements and sharp statements.

In the late 1990s, he was directly related to the National Bolshevik Party. And to the question of journalists about which political movement he prefers, Verbitsky answered that he is a communist, a satanist and an anarchist.

In 1998, our hero became the owner of the UR-REALIST music brand, under which more than 40 albums of experimental and non-format groups have already been released.

Mikhail Verbitsky is not just a blogger, he is also the creator of a service similar to LiveJournal. The brainchild of Verbitsky is called LJ. Rossia.org. Michael himself publishes under the pseudonym Tipharet. He called his occupation "culturology", but many would argue with him.

Our hero is the creator of a scandalous e-zine promoting extremism online (END OF THE WORLD NEWS).

Recently, Tipharet has been actively criticizing the Russian state and its traditions. Wrote sharp remarks against censorship on Wikipedia.

Conflict with Kuklachev

Verbitsky categorically opposes any censorship on the Internet. It was because of this that he became a participant in the judicial conflict. By posting on my blog, that Kuklachev uses electric shock when training his wards, he aroused the wrath of the people's artist.

Yuri Kuklachev filed a lawsuit against our hero for libel and insult.

Freedom of speech people understand as "freedom of insult". It turns out that I can come up, spit in your face, and say - I'm a free man!

Mikhail Sergeevich was not only indignant at the fact that Kuklachev opposes freedom of speech. Unable to agree mutually, the parties to the conflict went to court.

In February 2010, a court hearing was held, during which Kuklachev's claim was fully satisfied, and Verbitsky was forced to pay the trainer forty thousand Russian rubles as moral compensation.
