Chinese universities are becoming increasingly popular among Russian applicants. This state of affairs is the result of a concerted effort by the Chinese government, which has taken steps over the past decades to improve the quality of higher education in the country.
Prestigious universities in China
All prestigious universities in China are grouped into the so-called "League C9". This alliance is the Chinese equivalent of the American Ivy League and the British Russell group. It is the universities in the league that account for 20% of all scientific publications and significant government spending.
Actually, as an official organization, the League was created by order of the PRC government, which in 1998 set the task of popularizing Chinese education in the international market of educational services.
C9 League includes the following universities:
- Fudan University.
- Harbin Polytechnic.
- Beijing University.
- Shanghai Transport University.
- Tsinghua University.
- China University of Science and Technology.
- Xi'an Transport University.
- Zhejiang University.
The main advantage of studying at League universities is the opportunity to use the resources, both intellectual and technical, of other universities. Universities of the "League C9" have joint educational programs, student and teacher exchange programs, and are constantly in touch with leading universities in other countries, but, above all, in the USA and Great Britain.
History of Fudan University
Fudan public school, which served as the basis for the creation of the university, was founded in 1905, and the famous Chinese philosopher Ma Xiangbo acted as its organizer and director. The name of the school contained two characters, the combination of which translates as "the sky shines day after day."
In the first period of its existence, school teaching was based on the principles of Confucian virtue, the study of traditional philosophy, and the cultivation of curiosity and self-reliance in the pursuit of knowledge in students.
In this form, the school lasted twelve years until it received the status of a private university in 1917. The educational institution became known as Private Fudan University. Already by 1927, seventeen faculties functioned at the university, including journalism, law and pedagogy.
In 1937 due toretreat of the Kuomintang army, the university campus was evacuated to Chongqing, which by that time had become the capital of the Kuomintang government. Five years later, the university returned to Shanghai again, after the formation of the PRC, it received its current name - Fudan University.
University structure
Fudan University Shanghai consists of 17 institutes and 69 departments, with 73 bachelor's, 156 master's and 201 doctoral and postgraduate majors.
Forty-five thousand people study at all levels of education, including distance learning. In addition, Fudan University ranks second in the country in terms of the number of foreign students. In total, 1,750 foreigners study at the educational institution.
The university employs 2600 full-time teachers of various ranks and researchers. There are 1350 professors and assistant professors, and 30 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Technology.
Scientific activity
Like other universities in the C9 League, Fudan University places great emphasis on the integration of learning activities and research projects. Students from early years are encouraged to be involved in the scientific activities of the university through participation in programs that are implemented on the basis of research centers.
In addition to faculties, Fudan University has nine national research centers, seventy-sevenresearch institutes and twenty-five research stations for post-doctoral research. Special mention deserves five National Scientific Laboratories at the university, in which highly qualified specialists are engaged in interdisciplinary research.
Student Opportunities
Great attention at the university is paid to the development of the human potential of students and teachers and care for their quality of life. Students and employees have access to ten university hospitals, which are integrated into the educational and research processes. Students of medical programs practice in university medical complexes.
Paying great attention to the integration of Chinese education into the international system and international exchange, the administration of the university is trying to make the stay of many foreign students comfortable at the university. To do this, there is a student hostel, which can accommodate foreigners who come to the university from foreign countries. The university has four campuses, each of which is located in the historical center of Shanghai.
Worthy of special mention is the university library, which was founded in 1918 as a reading room. At the moment, the library fund has more than 45 million copies and is regularly replenished with both Chinese editions and editions in foreign languages. Today the library is a multifunctional multimediacomplex, on the basis of which access to international libraries is also provided, there is a complex system for finding the right books and periodicals.
Applicant selection system
Fudan University is one of the five most difficult universities in the country to enter. Since the structure of Fudan allows students to take a high-quality comprehensive course of study in all areas of knowledge, including the humanities and arts, it is very popular among future students. However, according to official statistics, only 0.2% of applicants can become students of Shanghai University.
Following the decisions taken, the administration has reduced the number of teaching hours, giving students more time for independent and research work, thus bringing their standards to the international level. However, in order to enter the university, Chinese students must pass an extremely difficult entrance exam, the results of which are extremely strictly evaluated by the examination board.
Tuition fees
Fudan University's master's degree is one of the most expensive levels of higher education. For international students, the cost of some speci alties can reach 75,000 yuan for one academic year, which is approximately 750,000 rubles.
At the same time, a one-year language course costs two hundred thousand, which is not much, given the intensity of training and the highestthe level of teaching staff. Separately, it is worth mentioning the prestige of the university, which will allow you to easily find the application of knowledge gained in language courses.
Student reviews of Fudan University in Shanghai are always positive. But quite often one can come across references to the extreme strain of forces that students are forced to apply for learning. However, there are other sources confirming the high international status of the university. Reviews about Fudan University can be confirmed by the fact that in some rankings it occupies the fortieth line of the best universities in the world. At the same time, in the internal Chinese system, the university is stable in fourth place.
International exchange
As already mentioned, in the modern Chinese educational system, much attention is paid to international academic exchange. This issue is partly resolved by sending Chinese students to study abroad at the expense of the treasury, and partly by inviting foreign professors to teach in China.
However, the participation of foreign students in the scientific and student life of Chinese universities is no less important. Such an exchange is seen by the Chinese Government as an opportunity not only to earn money from the provision of educational services, but also a way to spread Chinese influence and culture with soft power.
In order for the largest possible number of foreign students to study in China, the International Confucius Institute has been established, where you can get allthe necessary information about studying in China and obtaining grants at Fudan University. Branches of the institute operate in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia.
