During training, a contemporary is faced with a long list of mysterious terms that are practically not used in everyday life. Thus, exact disciplines often rely on the work of the Greeks, and the concept of "octagon" is only a small part. But even it should be studied more carefully, because the sonorous word can now be heard outside the math classroom. Sports fans will surely tell you more.

Because in ancient Greek ὀκτα- meant "eight", and the addition of γωνία indicated a specific object - "corners". This design, due to the wider angles, did not allow hiding from the enemy, leaving a lot of free space, which makes the fights more dynamic.

The term is recognizable, since it is rarely found in everyday speech. To understand its meaning, rely onto the context. But if the conversation turned to certain projects and exact disciplines, most likely, the interlocutor means a pure geometric form. Ordinary people usually have in mind the place of the fights, and then the phrase is revealed as an invitation to become a spectator or participant.
