One of the most important elements of knowledge of the region is the study of its natural data. In our article, the features of the climate of the Kursk region are considered. This area was included in the Central Federal District. The administrative center is the city of Kursk. The Kursk region borders on the Bryansk, Lipetsk, Voronezh and Belgorod regions, and on the western side it is adjacent to the Sumy region of the Ukrainian state.
Climate
Natural and climatic conditions of the Kursk region are not the mildest. The climate here is considered temperate continental, with moderately cold winters and warm summers. The combination of climate properties increases in the direction from west to east. Overcast weather is not uncommon in this area. There are about 60% of such days in a year, and only 20% of clear and partly cloudy days each.
The weather in the Kursk region is most often cloudy, this is facilitated by high humidity, as well as frequent cyclones. Snow coverestablished only in the second half of December. Snowfall begins to melt in early March. The snowmelt period lasts about 20 days. As a rule, the snow cover reaches 30 centimeters, rarely 20 centimeters more. Snow melts completely after 2-2.5 months. Winter lasts approximately 125 days, then spring. She has 60 days. Fortunately, summer pleases the Kursk people for 115 days, and autumn only 65. Such is the weather in the Kursk region.
Winter
The winter period is usually set in the region by the end of November. When the average daily temperature is below zero, snowfalls and cloudiness intensify. This is a sign of shifting precipitation from the Atlantic. Usually the climate of the Kursk region in winter is mild. On average, the temperature ranges from -5 °C to -9 °C. It often gets cold down to -15 °C. Cold northern winds sometimes cool the Kursk region down to -35 °С.
Forecasters believe that there is enough snow in the city, which brings joy to the little people of Kursk and frustration to public utilities. The thickness of the snow cover is up to 50 centimeters.
In other words, the winter climate of the Kursk region is cool and slightly frosty. But there are cases of thaws and rains brought by southwest winds.
Spring
Spring warmth comes to the Kursk region as it should be according to the calendar - in mid-March. The average daily temperature of the air layers is already positive, which leads to active snow melting. During this period, the atmosphere warms up gradually. In April, during the day, the soil warms up to +8 ° С,and in May this indicator doubles - up to +15 °С. However, gardeners should take into account that night frosts are not excluded.
Summer
Summer period for the climate of the Kursk region is mild. It starts in the last days of May. Then stable warm weather sets in, the atmosphere warms up from +15 °C, but there is an increase in precipitation. Seasonal rainfall activity intensifies towards mid-summer, establishing more stable and dry weather in August until almost the end of September. Night differences in summer temperatures are low. During the day, the air warms up to +25 °С, and at night up to +20 °С. A summer historical record was recorded when the atmosphere warmed up to +39 °С.
The climate of the Kursk region in summer is unstable, it is characterized by sudden heat. This is due to the fact that hot air masses begin to walk over the area, followed by a sharp cooling, caused by the entry of cold masses into the zone of this area.
Autumn
Kursk autumn is very bright, colorful and warm, as the color scheme during this period is the most diverse. However, gloomy days occur in the region, characterized by overcast skies and prolonged rains. September in this corner of Russia is considered a continuation of summer. During the day the temperature stays up to +15 °C. In October, the air temperature is slightly lower, already up to +10 °С. At night in October, the first frosts occur.
The climate of the Kursk region is quite humid. The area receives about 650 millimeters of precipitation per year. In warmthe edges of the area is slightly smaller, up to 500 millimeters.
Flora and fauna
The natural area of the Kursk region is quite diverse. There are various forests in the region. Bor is not typical for this area. If you are walking in the forest, then most likely this is the work of man. On the territory of the Kursk region there are birch and aspen forests, oak forests and walnut forests. Kuryans love to pick mushrooms: boletus, boletus, mushrooms, russula and others.
Reeds, alders, reeds, willows, egg-pods, water lilies and various algae grow in swamps and reservoirs.
This climate and nature are good for different animals. Moose, wild boars and roe deer live in groves and forests. Badgers also love the Kursk forests. The wolves were almost exterminated. But foxes, on the contrary, feel at ease in these parts. They hunt game even in the swamps. They love hedgehogs and squirrels that live here. There are a huge number of lizards and even snakes on the earth. Often in the forest you will meet a viper or snake.
Diversified world of birds in the forests of the Kursk region. Warblers, finches, woodpeckers are found here. There are also thrushes with cuckoos, turtle doves, partridges and corncrakes, as well as Kursk nightingales sung in songs.
Hydrological features
Kursk region is not rich in water resources. However, its river network is quite dense. Rivers in the western and central parts of the region belong to the Dnieper basin. The eastern part belongs to the Don basin. In total, there are more than 180 rivers in the region, the length of which is more than 10 km. It is noteworthy that their total length is almost 5200 km.
In the areathere are 4 large rivers: Seim, Tuskar, Svapa, Psel. Their valleys are deep and wide, shaped like gullies. They have a catch. Basically, they are fed by melted snow water - 50%, a little less groundwater - 30%, even less rain - 20%. The spring period is characterized by a high flood, which lasts about a month. Surprisingly, the water level is low in summer and winter. The rivers of the Kursk region open up in the middle of the calendar spring.
There are almost 900 lakes in the region. Their total area is approximately 200 square kilometers. In the spring they are at a high level. The lowest is in August. 785 artificial reservoirs have been built on the territory of the region, including ponds and small reservoirs, the total area of which is 242 square kilometers.
Thus, the climate of the Kursk region is due to humidity due to the presence of a dense river network and a large number of reservoirs, including artificial ones.
