One of the oldest and most glorious universities in the country - Moscow State University. This is the largest classical university, the center of national culture and science. In 1940, Moscow State University was named after the brilliant Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov. The full name of the university is rarely pronounced, the abbreviation "MGU" is a symbol of the best education, they are used to it, and therefore it is used more widely. This educational institution is called the federal state budgetary educational institution only in documents.

Structure

MGU is fifteen research institutes, forty-three faculties, six branches (including abroad), more than three hundred departments. In Azerbaijan (Baku), Tajikistan (Dushanbe), Armenia (Yerevan), Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and in the hero city of Sevastopol. Until 1995, there was a branch of Moscow State University in Ulyanovsk, now in its place is a separate university. Until 2013, a branch in Pushchino operated for six years in a row, but according to the monitoring results, it was recognized as inefficient and ceased to exist. MSU is one ofthe best libraries in the country, with a full range of literature from all areas of human knowledge, which is presented not only in Russian, but also in almost all foreign languages.

SSC MGU (decoding: Specialized Educational and Scientific Center) - a boarding school founded in 1963, the opening of which was attended by the largest scientists of the USSR, including A. N. Kolmogorov, is preparing a shift for university graduates. It is still the most prestigious school of secondary educational institutions today. All applicants must visit the museums of Moscow State University - Open Doors Day (2017 - January 15) left no one indifferent. On the website of the university, you can see information about what, where and how it happened at all faculties. The decoding of the word "MGU" is known to everyone, but even the students studying there are not able to cover everything that happens there, even with a thought. Too big swing.

In brief

The most important is, of course, the Museum of the History of Moscow State University. Open Day 2017 shows how interesting it is for future applicants. Also, many reviews were left in the Research Museum of Zoology, in the Museum of Geography, the university herbarium is amazing, and the Botanical Garden is loved not only by all of Moscow, but also by tourists. Interest organizations operate at the university. There is a student theatre, many creative clubs: poetic, "Golden Woods", climbers' club, yacht club and many others.

Own printed organ - "Bulletin of Moscow State University", which constantly covers all the activities of the university. In addition, the most powerful computer is the SKIF MGU supercomputer. Students create public organizations to actively participate in the life of the country and the capital. For example, there is a team that protects nature (the Faculty of Biology), voluntary fire brigades. Almost every student of the Faculty of History works in the archive - the largest of all university ones. The Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University conducts a variety of interuniversity master classes and scientific and practical seminars. Philologists and historians go on folklore expeditions. Life is in full swing everywhere. Since 1992, the post of rector has been occupied by Academician V. A. Sadovnichiy.

History

Moscow University was created at the suggestion of M. V. Lomonosov and I. I. Shuvalov. The opening took place after the signing of the decree by Empress Elizabeth on January 24, 1755. Since then, January 25 has always been celebrated by students of Moscow State University as Tatyana's Day, and subsequently all universities joined this holiday. The very first lectures were read at the university only at the end of April. A. M. Argamakov became the first director, and I. I. Shuvalov became the curator. The country's main university was subordinate only to the government - the Senate. No one could judge a professorship, except for the university itself, and that should have been the sanction of the director and curator. The head was the curator, who appointed teachers and approved programs and lecture courses. The director was supposed to be engaged in economic activities.

Initially, Moscow State University was located in the former Zemsky order (the building of the Main Pharmacy),where the Historical Museum (Red Square) is now. Catherine the Great moved him to a special building built by the architect Kazakov, on Mokhovaya Street, on the opposite side of it. In the eighteenth century, only three faculties were opened: law, medicine and philosophy. In 1779, a noble boarding school was founded by the poet Kheraskov, which was later transformed into a gymnasium. Within the walls of the university, the most popular of the country's newspapers, Moskovskie Vedomosti, was published. In the nineteenth century, new faculties appeared at Moscow State University: mathematics and physics, verbal sciences, medical sciences, as well as moral and political ones, in total - four faculties. In the twentieth century, in 1949, the construction of a new wonderful main building on Sparrow Hills began.

Construction

Now what does MSU mean? The decoding is still the same, but this university is located in more than six hundred buildings. The total area of all structures is more than a million square meters. The territory in Moscow alone is one hundred and twenty hectares. How could its founder Mikhail Lomonosov dream of such a university? Huge Fundamental Library - Intellectual Center rebuilt in 2005. Housewarming was celebrated by three faculties. A new one appeared - political science. Five buildings of the Medical Center have been built - with a polyclinic, analytical and diagnostic centers, a hospital for three hundred beds and an educational building. In 2009, students of the faculties of the humanities received their third building, and in 2013 the Faculty of Law moved to the fourth building of Moscow State University. Hostel onsix thousand seats, a stadium and two rings of buildings around the Fundamental Library have already been built. In addition, the old and new territories were connected by the largest underground passage under the entire Lomonosovsky Prospekt. New settlers at Moscow State University: Faculty of Economics, research and laboratory buildings.

This scale is worth it, because there are no graduates above the level of training in the country and very few in the world. This is also evidenced by ratings, including international ones. Moscow State University is represented in almost every world ranking system. Among the universities of Russia, it has been steadily and for many years in the first place, almost always. The only university in the CIS to which the agency "RA" assigned the class "A" in the rating. In 2016, the Times Higher Education reputation ranking brought MSU only the thirtieth place among the universities of the world, however, it must be borne in mind that the positions of a Russian university will always be lower than that of an English or American one.

Department of Economics

MSU, as already mentioned, is a classic, the oldest university in Russia with forty-three faculties, which perfectly train personnel in a wide variety of areas, whose professors and graduates have made a huge, invaluable contribution to domestic science for the benefit of their homeland. The Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University is the largest in terms of the number of students, the first to switch to tiered training. Bachelors spend four years at the university. They make up about 2,300 students of Moscow State University. Master's program is a two-year program, about 650 people study there. Eight dissertation councils of the faculty contribute to the defense of dissertations of future candidates and doctors of sciences, and about 450 people study in graduate school.

The faculty has more than 400 teachers, including 92 doctors and 220 candidates of sciences. Leading Russian economists from scientific research institutes, state administration bodies, and from the sphere of big business conduct educational and scientific work here every year by invitation. There are many foreign professors among the invited ones. The faculty has twenty-one departments, nine research and five auxiliary laboratories. The supreme governing body is the Academic Council headed by the dean, deputies, heads of departments and laboratories, as well as elected teachers, scientists and students. The most burning problems, all strategic issues of the life and work of the faculty and MSU as a whole, are resolved at the Academic Council.

Olympics

MSU, with the support of other educational centers, annually holds school and student Olympiads. For example, in the educational center "University Standards" two Olympiads are being prepared - "Conquer Sparrow Hills" and "Lomonosov". In general, MSU Olympiads are held in ten subjects: Russian, foreign languages, social studies, geography, history, biology, chemistry, literature, physics, and mathematics. Thus, preparation for the entrance exams is carried out, since the program of the Olympiads is included in the preparatory course of Moscow State University. It has long been practiced that winners and prize-winners receive benefits: either enrollment without exams, orone hundred points in the profile exam, or one hundred points for an additional entrance test. There is an opportunity to tell more about some Olympiads.

First of all, it's the Tournament of Towns where "Conferences" are held. They are in quotation marks because there are no plenary reports and no official program at all. It is more like informal meetings where the winners of an international mathematical tournament gather. Students are accompanied by teachers, but they do not play the main role here. The goals of such conferences are to teach capable schoolchildren to act independently, to solve problems of a research nature, sometimes with access to open problems in mathematics. Just to describe the conditions of such a plan would require a whole lecture, and very possibly more than one. The first day of work is a presentation of tasks that are solved both individually and collectively (the form is free), and several days are given for this with two finishes - preliminary and final. After that, the decisions are checked, and they are carefully analyzed. Such conferences are active rest, work to the fullest, intense and creative, plus the most interesting communication. They take place in different parts of the country and abroad, from Pereslavl-Zalessky to Adygea, from Kaliningrad and Belarus to Teberda and Yugoslavia, from Uglich to Hamburg.

RAS, Moscow State University and School of Mathematics

Since 2001, a unique mathematical school has been held in terms of the composition of participants and teachers. For two whole weeks, a hundred students listen to lectures and attend seminars lasting 74 minutes each lesson(shorter than a university "couple", but longer than an academic hour). Despite this, many attend four classes a day, so it is interesting to them. Those who have gone through this school are already able to understand from their own experience what modern mathematics is and what MSU means. The deciphering of this abbreviation by yesterday's winners of the Olympiads has already been done, each of them is sure that this is "My State University".

The results of these schools were numerous books and brochures, videos of all classes were made. Naturally, Moscow State University alone would not be able to organize this event on such a grand scale every year. This is possible only in cooperation. In organizing and providing lecturers, Moscow State University and the Russian Academy of Sciences have a leading role. Yandex, Dynasty, the Mathematical Etudes Foundation, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and many others always help. The Commonwe alth, of course, is interested and mutually beneficial, because the most capable schoolchildren will go to Moscow State University, and subsequently join the ranks of scientists and researchers, strengthening the reputation of these institutions with their talents. It is already a tradition to hold such summer schools, and a real happiness for gifted schoolchildren is a week and a half of communication with the best mathematicians in Russia, scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences and professors from Moscow State University.

Lomonosov Olympics

This is the first level Olympiad, it gives benefits for admission to Moscow State University to the maximum. The Lomonosov Olympiad has been held since 2005, always including such stages as a qualifying round and an internal round. Selectionis carried out in absentia, for which you need to complete preliminary tasks, the conditions of which are annually posted on the university website. For example, mathematics, grade 11: 2.5 thousand schoolchildren take part in the first round, only a little more than eight hundred remain in the second round.

Passing score - five solved problems out of ten. This year, 3.5 thousand participants of the first round are expected. The Lomonosov Olympiad is held not only at the main, but also at many regional sites, which is agreed in advance regarding the profiles. Eleventh graders who have passed to the final stage can choose a place to participate on their own. The Olympiad starts everywhere at the same time, the tasks are the same. They are checked according to general criteria and centrally, the place of participation does not play any role.
