Who is this kid? What girls are called tomboys and what does it mean?
Origin of the word
As it is easy to understand, the word "kid" comes from the related word "kid". In turn, the word "boy" was transformed from the Hebrew word "potzen". Potzens were nasty, slippery young people under the age of 25. Soon this word migrated to the criminal world, where it lost its negative meaning. Boys simply began to be called young people under 25 years old. Nobody thought about who the kid was. As it always happens, the criminal word migrated to the semi-criminal street youth, even acquiring some "respectful" meaning. A bad, unreliable guy won't be called a boy.
The meaning of the word "tomboy" is slightly different from the above, since the hierarchy is not very pronounced in women's circles.
Who is this kid?
- A girl who, unlike her peers, does not like to spend time playing traditionally girlish games, but prefers the company of boys in the yard. In this sense, the word has no thieves meaning: even her relatives can call a girl a tomboy. A girl older than 16-17 years old cannot be called a tomboy, so most often the term is used in relation to girls 8-13 years old.
- "Tomboy" in the meaning of "boy's girl". A girl in a relationship with a "boy". Often the concept is used to “bind” a girl to herself and carries a certain derogatory attitude towards her passion, but sometimes girls are proud of this and call themselves boys, demonstrating what kind of young man they have.
- Girl wearing masculine style of dress, short hair, etc. If a girl is an adult, she herself has the right to choose her own style, and the term "tomboy" is inappropriate for her. Boys are girls who spend time in a male company and have male hobbies. It is necessary to distinguish between this and the first meaning, despite the fact that they are very similar: in the first case, even relatives can call a girl a tomboy, and this does not carry any derogatory context, in the third case, in a decent society, a girl is not called a tomboy.
Attitude towards boys
Who is a tomboy: an ordinary girl or a "guy" in a female form? It is obvious that girls who have male interests -ordinary girls, and equating them with "men", as some do, is extremely incorrect. In the 21st century, a girl does not have to be feminine in appearance in order to remain a real lady: there are girls who wear ultra-short haircuts and simple men's clothes, but surpass their girlfriends in dresses in terms of education, erudition and femininity.
