There is no graduate student in economics who would not mentally open a beautiful diploma with an elegant inscription "Doctor of Economics". In the long list of positions, prizes and awards of the venerable academician, the doctoral degree will be one of the first to be proudly indicated. Even the ferocious maestro from the work we all know about Pinocchio Karabas-Barabas styled himself only as a doctor of science, in his case - puppet.
What is the secret of the prestige of this title? Yes, there are no secrets, just a doctor of science is the highest scientific degree, which is not at all easy to obtain. To do this, you should at least graduate from a higher educational institution, enroll in graduate school, first defend a candidate's dissertation, and only then proceed to writing a doctoral thesis. When it is finished, the monograph (the dissertation in writing) is given to the reviewers for consideration, and then the most dramatic moment comes- work for the coveted degree is sent to the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC). This process is called balloting, when members of the commission give their votes "for" or "against" depending on how important the scientific work submitted by the candidate is in their eyes. Here the applicant will have to literally zealously "defend", defending the value of his creation in front of his opponents and proving that his monograph is a new word in the field of science.

Now he has access to the position of a professor in a higher educational institution of the corresponding profile, and, of course, some increase in salary is provided. The solidity of the doctoral degree is also in the fact that the history of this scientific degree has almost a thousand years. It was first approved at the oldest university in Europe - the Bologna educational institution in 1130!
The doctoral degree has a wide global circulation, it is accepted in most states as evidence of undoubted scientific merit. The only difference is that in some countries, doctors become doctors after defending only one dissertation, skipping the candidate stage. Thus, the weight of the "classic", Soviet, and now Russian title "doctorSciences" is an order of magnitude higher than, say, its British counterpart.
There is also such a thing as the title of "honorary doctor" - this is the title by which many educational institutions mark public figures (politicians, cultural representatives and others), regardless of whether the awarded person has an academic degree or not.
