In medicine, there is such a thing as an intern. This word became familiar to many of us after the release of the Russian cult TV series of the same name about doctors. However, it is one thing to know the approximate meaning of this word, and quite another to understand the concept thoroughly. This is worth doing.

So, before we get into the meaning of the word "intern", we need to deviate a bit from the topic. True, not very far. You should start with such a definition as an internship. This word denotes the primary and necessarily postgraduate specialization of young professionals who have barely graduated from a medical university. She usually goes through one of the professions. Therapy, venereology, surgery, traumatology - a graduate can choose any direction. And this specialization is carried out after the student passes the state exams without fail. Then he is sent to a medical institution (for example, to a city hospital). You need to know that an internship is a mandatory stage that every potential medical professional must go through on the way to gaining a full medicaleducation and qualifications. And when a student completes it, he is given a special certificate and a corresponding diploma. All these are official documents confirming the fact that this person is a medical specialist, and he actually completed his internship.
Internship rules
So, an intern is, in fact, no longer a student, but not yet a doctor. In any case, this is how it is considered in a professional environment. Only after a year of internship can they be called full-fledged doctors.
An intern is a person with a higher medical education, and he can be hired without work experience. He is also registered as an official employee. Another intern is obligatory subordinate to either the head of the department (where he was admitted), or to the person replacing the head physician. There are a lot of requirements for a young doctor. He must know the laws of the Russian Federation and all acts that regulate the activities carried out by medical institutions. An intern is a doctor, albeit a young one, therefore he must know all the methods and rules of first aid.
He also performs all the functions of the attending physician, but always under the guidance of a highly qualified specialist. Responsible for all his actions. Before prescribing a course of therapy, he must present the patient's card with his notes and the prescribed treatment to his supervisor. He must report on his actions.
Responsibilities of a young doctor

Use literature and any other data, participate in meetings, conferences, relax in the allotted time - all this a young doctor can also do. In general, we can conclude that his activity proceeds like that of a highly qualified doctor, only for a year - as a training.
About payment
And finally, a few words about what kind of financial support "not yet doctors, but not students" can count on. They receive a salary, but, of course, its amount is much less than that of specialist doctors. But this is understandable: in fact, young people are only learning. But after 6 months, the intern has the right to go on an annual paid vacation. It is financed by the employer (i.e. hospital or clinic). And after the successful completion of the internship, you can stay in the same place - with the accumulated experience, experience and trust of the leadership.
