Many people are familiar with the craving for a change of place. I don’t want to stay in the city for a long time, engage in a routine at work, or perform disgusting household chores over and over again. Sometimes you want to drop everything, dress brighter and go on a voyage! What does this mean, and how did the original word come about? More recently, the concept has gained a second life, but in practice it has been used by Russian-speaking citizens since the end of the 18th century and was obvious to representatives of all generations.

The fashion for borrowing words was characteristic of high society. The aristocracy could easily carry on a conversation with a foreigner. A short but capacious definition with an emphasis on "I" came from French, which means it just:
- travel;
- trip.
This can be a classic business trip or traveling to exotic countries for scientific, tourist purposes. But how did the concept come about?
Etymology according to Vasmer
Philologists discovered the first mention of the Russian form in 1764. It was a direct translation of voyage from French -"travel". An earlier version of the term is called the Latin viaticum, which means money to spend on the road. Or viaticus, which pointed to any object prepared for a long journey.
We can conclude that this is not a spontaneous trip, but a carefully thought-out, stage-by-stage planned tour. Look in your travel bag and find: dresses for going out, an umbrella in case of rain, warm underwear if the traveler intends to visit cold climates or spend the night outdoors.
Using practice
Despite the fact that the word was used for almost three centuries, by the beginning of the 21st century it was considered obsolete. Contemporaries preferred more specific definitions:
- journey - for a long journey;
- business trip - for the worker;
- tour - for relaxation, etc.
Sometimes "voyage" could be heard in an ironic way, in a comic form. It gave elegance to the conversation about the upcoming trip, painted it in positive tones. It is appropriate in conversations with relatives, with colleagues, but outside the official setting. Travel agents could lure customers with bright wrapping and flowery phrases. However, something has changed in recent years.
Everyday language
In 2017, the Leningrad group released a video of the same name. What does it mean? "Voyage" entered the lexicon of youth! Against the backdrop of a memorable musical sequence, a stable association with relaxation and"maximum pull", when you can forget about the rules and conventions of society. The hero is just trying to enjoy life without worrying about everyday worries.
In conversations, the term still appears informally. However, it has become more relevant and understandable to others. Are you planning a family trip out of town or just inviting your loved one for a walk? Invite him to make a trip, it will immediately set a positive attitude!
