The border of Ukraine has a fairly long length - 7700 km. Of these, 1960 km it stretches along the seas and 5740 km on land. The territory of the state captures the Black and Azov seas. Among European countries, it occupies an honorable first place in its length.
The borders of Ukraine are located in such a way that it borders on seven states: the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Hungary and the Slovak Republic. The longest of them are considered to be the borders with Russia, Moldova and Belarus. Thanks to the maritime territory, Ukraine also has "common points of contact" with Turkey, Georgia and Bulgaria.
With some countries, borders run through plains and mountains. The Carpathians are a conditional line of division of Romania, Poland and Slovakia with Ukraine.
The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv
The capital of Ukraine, a hero city and just a settlement that all of Ukraine can be proud of - Kyiv. In addition, it is considered the largest in the state. It is an administrative-territorial unit, as well as a center of culture, politics, economy, transport, science and religion. The city has a special status, does not belong to the Kyiv region and Kiev-Svyatoshinsky district, however, according to the documents, it is listed as their center.
Geographically, Kyiv is located in the northern part of Ukraine, namely in its center. In Europe, in terms of population, the capital takes the honorable seventh place, behind Istanbul, Moscow, London, St. Petersburg, Berlin and Madrid. The history of this city is so rich that you can talk about it for hours. For all the time of its existence, Kyiv has been the capital of the Polish race, Kievan Rus and the principality, the UNR, the UNRS, the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian SSR. And only in 1991 Ukraine was recognized as independent, and the hero-city was recognized as its center. It, like all other regional centers, has its own coat of arms and flag. Due to the fact that in the past this settlement was of great importance for the Russians, it is still unofficially called the “mother of Russian cities.”
Borders of Ukraine
In the north and northwest, the borders of Ukraine with some states (Russia, Belarus, Poland) pass through lowlands and wetlands. The eastern part of the entire border line with the Russian Federation passes through continuous plains, on which there are no borders. The line of demarcation with Hungary and Slovakia passes through the Transcarpathian lowland. In the west, through the mountains and foothill areas, a border was formed with Moldova, Slovakia,Poland and Romania.
The territory of Ukraine is so well fortified in the center of the so-called European border that it gradually increases its military significance and influence both on its own population and on neighboring countries, since the issue of preserving state borders remains relevant, in the solution of which the entire European Union is involved. Due to the fact that natural boundaries in some areas are considered a dream, the country also has to spend a sufficient amount of budget funds to build and strengthen defensive columns, etc.
Regions of Ukraine
Scientists and historians divide Ukraine into 15 regions. Some of them are rich, some are poor. But they are all part of a great and mighty state. The territory of Ukraine is conditionally split into two parts: Eastern and Western. Each of them is divided into several more territories:
1. Chernihiv region.
2. Kyiv region.
3. Dnieper.
4. Sea of Azov.
5. Donbass.
6. Slobozhanina.
7. The Black Sea region (this also includes the Crimean peninsula).
8. Hem.
9. Poltava region.
10. Bessarabia.
11. Bukovina.
12. Galicia (Lemkivshchyna, Boykivshchyna and Hutsulshchyna are also attributed to this region).
13. Transcarpathia.
14. Volyn.
15. Polissya.
The listed regions of Ukraine are united due to the official division into regions, of which there are 24 in the country.
Chernihiv region
Chernihiv regionlocated in the northern part of the state. Includes Chernihiv region, part of Sumy and Slavutych. Citizens of Ukraine living here may notice that the relief of this area is quite simple, since almost the entire region lies on the East European Plain.
There are about 1100 rivers flowing here. Their total length is 8 thousand km. In addition to them, tourists are attracted by interesting animals listed in the Red Book: bison, jerboas, bats, ferrets, cranes, owls, etc. Such regions of Ukraine as Chernihiv region also have a sufficient number of reserves. There are three parks on the territory (one landscape, two natural). It is these indicators that increase the tourism potential.
According to 2015, about a million people live in the region. Of these, Ukrainians make up more than 90% of the inhabitants, you can also meet Belarusians and Russians.
Kyiv region
The second most important district is Kyiv region. Its difference lies in the fact that one city, allegedly part of this region, is not a resident, but acts as an independent separate administrative-territorial unit. This is a powerful city of such a state as Ukraine - Kyiv.
The population of the area is more than half a million people (as of 2013). The climate is mild, winters are slightly cool, summers are warm. The north of the Kiev region is located on the Polesskaya lowland, the eastern part - on the Dnieper, the south and the center of the region - on the Dnieper upland. It has permanent river valleys, ravines and bluffs.
Likemany other areas that arise in the head after the question “how is Ukraine divided” and which belong to the Dnieper, part of the Kiev region lies on its bank.
Dnieper region
The area is located in the center of Ukraine, near the Dnieper and the Bug. The Dnieper region occupies more than 24 thousand km2. If you use the map, you can safely say that it borders on 6 cities: Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolaev, Vinnitsa. Takes the third position in the question “how is Ukraine divided”.
Archaeologists, after conducting one very interesting and important study, found that the first life in this area arose in the 10th century BC. In the historical sphere, practically nothing interesting happened. In the XIII century, the Kirovograd region was under the rule of Lithuania, and already from 1569 - Poland.
The current territory of the Dnieper region is located exactly in the place where the Cossack Sich and the first Cossacks were born.
Priazovie
Priazovie takes fourth place in the list "How Ukraine is divided" in terms of its length. It includes some parts of the Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson regions, as well as several cities of regional importance (Mariupol, Melitopol and Berdyansk).
It is the center of metallurgy in Ukraine. Thanks to Mariupol, where several plants have been built, it is in the Azov region that more than one third of the entire Ukrainian production of steel, pig iron, coke, pipes, etc. is produced.
Transport is quite developed in this area. There are three seaports: Mariupol,Taganrog, Berdyansk. The agricultural sector, the food industry and fishing are well developed and supported by the government.
Donbass
Donbass is a region that emerged a long time ago and still leaves its traditions, customs and way of life unchanged. Fifth in the rating "How Ukraine is divided" in terms of its area. It includes the Donetsk region and the south of Luhansk.
Donbass was originally a technically advanced part of the state. The Donetsk coal basin was discovered by scientists in 1720, and since then it has been developed. It occupies about 60 thousand km. The coal reserves here are quite large. At a depth of up to 1700 m, deposits with a total mass of 140 million tons were found.
Due to the fact that the Lugansk region and Donetsk region were in close contact with each other, compromised, sought common interests, they were unofficially united into a region called Donbass. Citizens of Ukraine noticed that in addition to the goals, these two regions have approximately the same economic sphere, historical and cultural.
For several decades it has been the largest center of the coal industry and metallurgy (both non-ferrous and ferrous).
The border between Russia and Ukraine. Relations between countries
There are few neighboring countries in Europe that can boast of a long common history, nations, as well as mutual interests, economic features and other issues that unite these two countries - Ukraine and Russia. The map of Ukraine with cities perfectly shows how strongly, densely "complement each other" these countries.
Before the military conflict throughvoting, the following data were found out from the respondents: the majority (44%) is inclined to believe that states will continue to create ideal conditions for existence. After all, for many years they were called sisters. It can even be observed that many industries and areas have the same structure and are set up for close cooperation. The second part of the voters (28%) said that the regions of Ukraine, like the government of the whole country, would have good relations with the Federation. The rest (9%) voted for worsening all ties between the two states. A little more than six hundred people participated in this survey, the most believers in a bright future thought that good relations would be maintained for at least another century. People who were under 45 years old voiced a forecast based more on caution.
Now there is a major conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, but it is necessary to believe that soon all disagreements will disappear.
The Russian border with Ukraine has existed since 1991. The dispute between the countries over the Crimean peninsula is considered incomplete. Guards have been built along the entire perimeter, barriers and artificial columns have been installed.
