Music consists of a number of components: melody, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, mode, and, perhaps most importantly, tempo. It is with his great merit that what everyone loves so dearly is created - music.
What are the tempos and what is andante?
Pace
The word "tempo" comes from Latin roots. Translated tempus means "time".
Time is a physical concept, the unit of measurement of which is meter fractions. It would seem that a simple matter is to count a meter, but this is far from being the case. For accurate measurement, there is a metronome tool. It was created at the beginning of the 19th century by the mechanic Dietrich Winkel. Its work is similar to the process of beating the heart.
There are three main groups into which pace is classified.
1. Slow:
- largo is the slowest possible;
- lento - is drawn out;
- adagio – calmly;
- grave is slower than andante and has a rather heavy character;
2. Moderate:
- andante - slowly;
- andantino is a relative of the higher tempo and a little of itlivelier;
- sosstenuto - reserved;
- moderato - the line between moderate and fast pace;
- allegretto - has a cheerful, lively character;
3. Quick:
- allegro - rather;
- vivo - alive;
- vivache - even more alive;
- presto - pretty fast;
- prestisimo - incredibly fast.
What is Andante?
A word has multiple meanings.
- Andante (Italian for "walking") is a musical term for a moderate tempo associated with a calm pace. According to the metronome, the speed ranges from 76 to 108 beats per minute. The tempo is in the middle position between his two compatriots - grave (heavy) and sostenuto (reserved).
- Andante is a rather slow movement in symphonic forms, sonatas and other musical genres.
In practice
What is Andante in practical life?
The Andante tempo is considered one of the most common in music, as it occupies a relatively middle position. At this speed, it is possible to better listen to the accompaniment and enjoy the main melody.
For example, "andante" on the piano is often practiced and only enhances the sound of the piece.
In notes, the tempo is indicated on the left side:
One of his worthy examples, as part of a work, is the Andante "Elvira Madigan" from the Piano Concerto No. 21 written byW. A. Mozart.
Haydn's work Symphony No. 94 "Surprise" contains an "andante" movement, which completely coincides with its title in tempo. She has a calm stepping pace, but not too slow:
In addition
In addition to the variety of tempos, there are a huge number of touches and additions to refine the details. For example:
- andante assai (andante assai) - very calm;
- andante maestoso (andante maestoso) - a solemn step;
- andante mosso (andante mosso) - with a lively step;
- andante non troppo (andante non troppo) - slow movements;
- andante con moto (andante con moto) - with a laid-back step.
I would like to note that there are hundreds of strokes in music, with the help of which authors can convey the desired sound and character to the performer more accurately.
In closing
Don't assume that pace is a purely conservative thing. Music is full of opportunities for self-expression and virtuosity, which makes it so interesting. That is why the meter can be modified, provided that the tempo limits are observed. The metronome also serves to perfect the work from the technical side.
So what is andante? Another way to enrich the music world.
