The traditions of the Imperial House of Romanov did not disappear after the execution of the royal family. Many descendants of the heirs to the Russian throne are still living and well in prosperous European countries. One of these descendants is Prince Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky, the heir who never became the emperor of Russia.
Marriage of the Emperor
In noble families, it is not uncommon for there to be a tradition of repeating the names of heirs from generation to generation. Prince Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky is a clear confirmation of this tradition. The first person with that name was born in 1872 in St. Petersburg. His father was the current Emperor Alexander II, and his mother was the morganatic wife of the Tsar, Princess E. M. Dolgorukaya. Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky was born out of wedlock and until 1874 had no rights or titles. But in the middle of 1874, the tsar sent a secret decree to the Senate on conferring legal rights and the title of “most serene” on the children of Princess Dolgoruky Georgy and Olga. Later, in 1880, an act was drawn up on the marriage of Emperor Alexander and Princess Catherine. Thisthe document endowed the newlywed with the title of the Most Serene Princess Yuryevskaya, which could later be passed on to children from this marriage. So the daughters of Princess Olga and Catherine, son George received their own title and their own surname.
Short biography
Recognizing his own children, Emperor Alexander II equalized their rights with the legitimate heirs - children from his first marriage with Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna. After the assassination of Alexander II by Narodnaya Volya, the Yuryevsky family emigrated from Russia and settled in France. His Serene Highness Prince Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky graduated with honors from the Condorcet College, and received his higher education at the Sorbonne. In 1891 he received his bachelor's degree, returned to Russia and became a naval officer. For several years, Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky served in the B altic Fleet, and in 1908 he retired due to illness.
In the beginning of 1900, His Serene Highness Prince was married to Countess Zarnekau. From this union was born an heir, the namesake of the Russian emperor, Alexander Georgievich. Unfortunately, the age allotted to George turned out to be short-lived. At the age of 41, he died in Marburg from acute nephritis.
150 years later
George's son lived a long life. Constant revolutions and change of governments in European countries, two world wars lost the remnants of the Yuryevsky's large fortune - Alexander had to earn his living on his own. In the end, a descendant of Emperor Alexander II chose Switzerland as a permanent place of residence. In 1925 inIn the cathedral, he married Ursula Annemaria Beer, who, after marriage, began to bear the title of the Most Serene Princess Yuryevskaya. From this marriage was born Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky - the great-grandson of Emperor Alexander II.
Our contemporaries
Our contemporary G. A. Yurievsky was born in 1961 in Switzerland. A descendant of royal and princely blood leads an ordinary life, has his own profession. Georgy Alexandrovich Yuryevsky received an excellent education, became a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich. He leads several companies related to the development of application software. In addition, the great-grandson of the emperor has excellent sports training - he is a professional tennis player, has a diploma as a rescue diver.
Prince George knows Russian, but does not speak it perfectly. Poor knowledge of the native language is explained by the decision of his father Alexander, who feared persecution by the Soviet regime. A strict ban on talking about modern Russia reigned in the family, but the history of the great country until 1917 was studied in every detail. Mother Ursula, the Serene Princess Yuryevskaya, enthusiastically told little Georgy about life in Russia, about the ancestors of the Yuryevskys.
In 2013, His Serene Highness Prince Georgy Aleksandrovich Yuryevsky started a family. Sylvia Trump, a resident of Germany, became his chosen one. Before the wedding, the bride was baptized according to the Orthodox rite– she was given the Christian name Elikonida, in honor of the martyr from Thessaloniki, whose memory Christians of the Orthodox rite celebrate on May 28.
The marriage of this couple for many well-born families has become an event of the season. The wedding was attended by the offspring of the most famous ruling dynasties of Central and Eastern Europe.
Yurievsky in Russia
Unlike his father, Georgy Yuryevsky was able to visit Russia. His visit came in 1991. He became one of the first who crossed the borders of the Soviet state and witnessed the collapse of the USSR. At present, the Most Serene Prince is a permanent guest on the territory of Russia. Here he is engaged in business in the field of arts and real estate, has an apartment in St. Petersburg.
