For a long time in Russia it was as if there were two parallel cultures. One is simple, folk, in which primordial terms arose and developed, and the second is built on the borrowing of Western European etiquette and foreign words.
Because of their confusion, some concepts are perceived by contemporaries in a negative way. Although "woman" is the usual designation for a woman. In it initially there is no neglect or insult. What did the Russian people actually put into this concept?
Native speech
Deciphering the term is intuitive to all native speakers. Three values are considered key:
- married peasant woman - in the speech of the nobles as an antonym for a potential bride-"girls";
- wife – colloquial name for wife;
- any woman is colloquially vulgar.
The third option is often specified, and it turns out that a "woman" is a well-lived lady, a grandmother. Either the mother of one of the parents, or a completely outsider older woman. However, options from the section of technology and construction are possible:
- demolition tool (spherical oroblong);

- blank for driving piles by hand.
With the adjectives "potato" or "rum", the meaning of the word "baba" takes you into the realm of cooking, pointing to certain dishes. And the epithet "snowy" turns the phrase into a synonym for a snowman beloved by all children.
Exotic interpretation
Unusual meaning appears in the context of the Turkic languages, which are widely spoken in the East. In this case, any manifestations of femininity are excluded. Because the main transcripts will be:
- old man, sage;
- spiritual teacher;
- synonymous with the words "ancestor", "founder of the clan", "elder".
The last point can be considered the most significant. Some researchers suggest that it was from him that the stone woman came. This is a humanoid statue, acting as a monument or an object of worship. Even if it is not always possible to establish a clear connection with a particular cult, religion, the locals treat ancient figures with special reverence.
Current usage
When the conversation turned to technology, cooking, archeology, or refers the participants in the discussion to the sages of the East, there is nothing wrong with using the word "baba". This is a common term without any background. It's a different matter if you try to address someone fromloved ones, and even more so to strangers.
Rejection of the name is considered impolite in itself, and replacing it with the conditional "wife of a serf" is completely insulting. And if as part of phraseological units, when communicating in a narrow circle, a colorful concept can be used boldly, then in public communication try to avoid it so as not to be considered ignorant.
