Moscow State Pedagogical University in 6 years will turn a century and a half. At the time of Emperor Alexander II, it was called the Moscow Higher Women's Courses, it was the very first university in Russia where women of any class could receive higher education, until that moment Russian women studied only abroad. History
At first, the course program was designed for two years and did not provide for any specializations, mainly history and philology were taught. Courses were located in different buildings, even in the Polytechnic Museum. By 1885, there were already more than two hundred listeners - a lot for those harsh years.
For some time the courses were not set: there was a format of public lectures organized by the Moscow Society of Educators and Teachers. And in 1900, they finally received state status. At the same time, two faculties were formed: historical-philological and physical-mathematical. Vladimir Vernadsky - the founder of many sciences, the famous researcher of the biosphere, in 1905 was elected director of the Moscow Higher School of Culture, professor, who founded the mineralogical museum.
