Institute of Physical Education. Lesgaft is famous for the fact that such luminaries of science as the physicist Abram Fedorovich Ioffe, the physiologist and the first Russian Nobel Prize winner Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, the physiologist Alexei Alekseevich Ukhtomsky, the great historian Evgeny Viktorovich Tarle and many others taught within its walls.

Founder of the Institute Petr Frantsevich Lesgaft

The future biologist, anatomist, doctor and teacher was born on September 8, 1837 in St. Petersburg into a family of Germans who remained to live in Russia. His father, Peter Otto Lesgaft, was a jeweler and was a member of the Gold Art Guild. Being the owner of a small jewelry store, his father had a small income, which also affected the upbringing of the growing lad - from childhood, his father taught him not only to order, but also to frugality in everything. Peter's mother, Henrietta Adamovna, aroused in the boy a love of music from an early age. The upbringing of his parents and the situation in the family laid down in the boy such qualities as disinterestedness, respect for work, adherence to principles - they became traits of his character and determined his whole future life.

Until the age of nine, the future scientist was homeschooled, and at the age of nine he was sent to the St. Peter. Studying was very easy for him, and at the same time he was a diligent student - he pored over books for a long time and conscientiously completed assignments.

At the age of 17, the young man graduated from school and his interest in medicine andchemistry. In the summer of the same year, he became a freshman at the Medical and Surgical Academy. In the third year of the institute, he was so carried away by anatomy that he gave it his all.

In 1861, Lesgaft successfully passed all the exams, while receiving a medical degree. And Peter Frantsevich devoted his entire future life to medicine.

December 11, 1909, the heart of the great scientist stopped after a long illness. They buried him at the Volkovsky cemetery.

But there are also negative reviews. For example, the parents of some students are very dissatisfied with the fact that when their children have injuries in the classroom, the student polyclinic does not always have the necessary equipment and medicines to provide adequate treatment. In such cases, the injured are sent to the city hospital, and parents have to pay a considerable amount for the services of a doctor.
