The word "chubuk" in Russian belongs to the group of homonyms, therefore, it has several meanings. This term does not apply to those often used in everyday speech, so many may have a question: “What is a chubuk?” We will consider the answers to it below.

For most of those who are still familiar with the word "chubuk", it is associated with smoking pipes. Indeed, the continuation of the bowl with the tobacco chamber is the chubuk. Its main function is to conduct smoke. For this reason, it is sometimes confused with a mouthpiece. However, this is not entirely true. One end of the mouthpiece is hermetically connected to the stem, and the other end is held in the mouth by the smoker.
Tobacco smoking fashion came to Europe from America. The Indians used the mineral kaolinite, also called pipe stone, to make their pipes. Later, they were made from various materials: stone, wood, gourd, porcelain, meerschaum, clay, and even corn cobs. At the same time, individual parts of the smoking pipe could be made of metal, in particular the chubuk.
Until the middle of the last century, pipes were quite commonwidely until they were supplanted by more practical cigarettes. Today, the demand for smoking pipes is small. But many famous personalities, as well as fictional characters, were their fans: Commissar Maigret, Peter I, Sherlock Holmes, Sebastian Bach, Albert Einstein and the children's favorite Crocodile Gena.

There are other answers to the question of what a chubuk is. For example, a bighorn sheep is also called a chubuk. These artiodactyls live in Kamchatka and Eastern Siberia.
Besides, the word "chubuk" is well known to winegrowers. This is the name of the cuttings of a fruiting one-year-old vine. Green grapes are cut in early autumn, and the length of such a shoot can reach both 10 and 70 cm.
Cuttings must have at least three buds. They are stored until spring in a cool place, then germinated in pots before planting in open ground.
