St. Petersburg State University is officially recognized as the oldest university in Russia. Its structural divisions include more than 20 faculties, among which there is also the Faculty of Sociology. The educational programs offered by the university in this direction are described below.

The duration of undergraduate studies is 4 years. Admission is based on the results of a unified state exam in specialized subjects. It is possible to study on a budgetary basis or on a contractual basis.
At the end of 2015, St. Petersburg State University was included in the QS Graduate Employability Ranking of Universities 2016. As part of the master's programs at St Petersburg University, students have the opportunity to receive two diplomas: from St. Petersburg State University and from a foreign partner university.
As part of the Master's program in sociology at St. Petersburg State University, the program in English "International Sociology" is presented. Sociology students are taught in English by qualified teachers from Russia, as well as Germany (in English).educational profile "European Societies") and the Republic of Korea (on the educational profile "Global Sociology: Comparative Perspectives"). Also, in the master's program of the Faculty of Sociology of St. Petersburg State University, the direction of preparation "Sociology in Russia and China" is presented. Training is conducted both in Russian and in English. The direction "Sociology in Russia and China" is the first program in national higher education for training specialists of the second stage of higher education - masters of sociology, who are able to conduct comparative sociological studies of the development processes of Russian and Chinese societies.
Faculty of Sociology, St. Petersburg State University: passing grades
In order to enter the state-funded place of the Bachelor's degree program "Social Work", an applicant in 2018 had to score at least 82.33 points on average for each state exam. For admission on a contractual basis, it was enough to get at least 65.33 points on average for 1 exam. In 2018, 15 state-funded places were allocated, and a total of 5 places with tuition fees were offered. At the same time, the cost of education was 190 thousand rubles a year.
For admission to the direction "Sociological research in the digital society" of the Faculty of Sociology of St. Petersburg State University, applicants had to provide the results of the Unified State Examination with scores not lower than:
- 256points for budget base;
- 214 points for contract basis.
In total, fifteen budget places were allocated. The competition for 1 free place was over 14 people. There were 25 paid places. The cost of education is 203 thousand rubles a year.
The passing scores for the direction of study "Sociology" of the Faculty of Sociology of St. Petersburg State University in 2018 amounted to the following values:
- 269 points for free foundation training;
- 193 points for basic learning board.
The competition for 1 budget place exceeded 19, 8 people, in total 35 applicants were recruited. 25 paid places were allocated. Tuition fee: 203,000 rubles per year.
