The division of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov M. V., leading educational and research activities in the field of chemical sciences, is one of the oldest faculties. It combines the fundamental nature of education and the experience of introducing scientific areas into the learning process. Students who successfully graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University can count on getting a good and highly paid position not only at Russian enterprises, but also abroad.

History and our days

The establishment of the chemical department of Moscow State University by order took place on February 26, 1930, but despite this, the faculty is considered to be active since 1929-01-10. In the very first year of activity, a discipline appeared at the university - chemistry. Mikhail Lomonosov, the founder of Moscow State University, was the greatest scientist in Russia and the best chemist in the country of that era.

The first chemical laboratory was built in 1761. It was located near the Resurrection Gate. The famous F. F. Reiss began teaching chemistry in 1800. In his era, students were not allowed topractical exercises.

In 1822, one of the capable and talented students was sent to France and Germany for a detailed study of practical chemistry. After that, in 1828, he began teaching. In 1837, the first chemical laboratory was founded with a huge audience.

Learning reform

At that time, the university developed the theory of chemical structure, studied atoms and molecules. A reform took place when theory and practice in teaching became inseparable. The systematization of research began. Conversations were introduced (checking and evaluating students' knowledge in the education system).

Now 1800 people work at the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University. 850 of them are associate professors or senior lecturers. More than 1000 candidates and doctors of sciences. 700 people - technicians, laboratory assistants. More than 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students are educated at the Department of Chemistry of Moscow State University.

Description of the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University

Although powerful hoods work at the faculty, the atmosphere there is very “chemical” with its own specific smell. In educational and scientific laboratories (of which there are more than 70) there is a huge amount of chemical glassware and reagents, specific unique equipment. It is here that the development of chemistry as a science and the education of students, the transfer of knowledge to the younger generation takes place.

Teaching staff, international connections, plus a unique atmosphere - all this made the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University (Chemical Faculty) attractive to many applicants.

Scientific work students start from the first year. There are 17 departments here, so the choice of area for doing science is very wide. Students are given the opportunity to do internships in world research centers. They participate in scientific conferences, publish articles in foreign journals. The rest of the training is devoted to writing a thesis.

Training areas

The first three years of study at the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University, students study general disciplines - physics, higher mathematics, humanitarian subjects, a foreign language. There are several directions for studying in the magistracy of the Faculty of Moscow State University. The term of study is two years. Postgraduate studies of the faculty are available to distinguished students and those who have shown interest in science and research work.

Chemistry speci alty trains specialists in four areas:

  1. Physical chemistry of advanced processes and materials.
  2. Computational.
  3. High molecular compounds.
  4. Physical chemistry.

The study of chemistry is given more than 40% of the time, which is divided in half into theory and practical exercises in the laboratory. The study of mathematics, general theoretical physics accounts for 20% of the time. In comparison with other faculties of the country, this is twice as much.

How to act

There are more than a thousand students and about 250 graduate students at the faculty. The best applicants come here - excellent students, medalists, winners of Olympiads.

To attracttalented youth since 1993, through various scientific competitions and projects, young people from various cities of Russia and neighboring countries have been selected.

Winners of some All-Russian Olympiads can enter the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University without exams.

Ambitious and talented people, passionate about the ideas of chemistry, will always be welcome within the walls of the faculty. For this, a network of educational institutions was organized under the wing of the faculty, in which classes are held according to the special program of Moscow State University.

Distance learning is also possible at the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University. The general process of admission and acquisition of knowledge in this case remains the same as in full-time form. The only difference is that the student has the opportunity to attend lectures, seminars and other training sessions without leaving home.

Employment

Chemistry graduates have no problem finding a job. All paths are open before them - both engineering, and entrepreneurial, and, of course, scientific.

Chemist Career Day, which is held annually at the relevant faculty, helps in finding a job. The holiday is attended by Russian employers, as well as employers from foreign countries who are interested in young professionals with an education of the level that Moscow State University gives.

It is no coincidence that monuments to Mendeleev and Butlerov were erected at the main entrance of the university. These two scientists are the greatest pillars of chemical science. Their sculptures remind students that discoveries are made by people, thatnot everything is yet known in the universe, and that future breakthroughs must be made by them.
