Austria is a small country, its administrative division consists of nine federal states, which, in turn, consist of districts and statutory cities. Here are the largest cities in Austria (the list includes the ten largest settlements in terms of area and population):
Vienna is the capital of the country and the federal state of the same name, one of the richest and most luxurious cities in the country. Vienna is located in the eastern part of the state on the banks of the Danube
- Graz is the second largest city in Austria. It is the center of the federal state of Styria. Graz is considered a student city, and its center has been declared a heritage of mankind and is under the protection of UNESCO.
- Linz is located in Upper Austria. It is one of the country's most important cultural and educational capitals.
- Salzburg is the capital of the federal state of the same name. Helocated almost on the border with Germany in the Alpine Mountains on the Salz River, from which the name of the city came from.

- Wels, like Linz, is located in Upper Austria. It is the second largest city in the region. Wels is a very old settlement located near the river Traun. A little over 56 thousand people live in it.
- St. Pölten is the capital of the Lower Austria region. It is considered the oldest city in the country and is located near Vienna, between the Alps and the Danube.
- Dornbirn is also a very old city, it is the capital of Vorarlberg, which all Austria is proud of. The cities of this region are mostly small both in terms of area and number of inhabitants. Dornbirn, which closes the top ten largest Austrian cities, is very close to the border with neighboring states.
Resort towns
Despite the fact thatthe above settlements are the largest in area, they are not as popular as many of the ski resorts and baths that Austria promotes.
These cities are mostly visited by foreign guests who come specifically to enjoy the unique climate. The most popular among them are Innsbruck, Baden and Salzburg.
