This unit functioned for a short time in the named educational institution - only 1 year. In 1944, the faculty separated from the Moscow State University and grew into an independent educational institution - the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

While working as part of the Moscow State University, the faculty was imbued with the spirit of the head university. This allowed the department to set the right direction for the development of MGIMO in the future. In the first year of work at the university it wasonly 200 people accepted. In subsequent years, this figure increased. Foreign citizens began to appear among the students.

Previously, the university did not have the right to do this, because there were standards common to all educational institutions. However, the President of Russia, taking into account the authority and prestige of MGIMO, signed a decree granting the right to develop their own educational programs.
