What is associated with the word "institute"? Probably, many will remember the years of student life: lectures, term papers, passing exams, tests and, of course, defending their final work. But there are other institutions that are not directly related to education. We are talking about scientific institutions. IPCE RAS is an organization known for advanced developments in physical chemistry.
What kind of science is this? Teachings about solutions, corrosion of metals, catalysis, thermodynamics - not to list everything. To do physical chemistry, you need the appropriate equipment and people who can use it, get new results and implement them.
History and present
Officially, IPChE RAS was formed in 1945 and was called the Institute of Physical Chemistry. From a historical point of view, it would be correct to count education from 1929. In this year, Vladimir Alexandrovich Kistyakovsky established a specialized Colloid Electrochemical Laboratory within the structure of the Academy of Sciences. Five years later, it was transformed into an institute of the same name.
From the structure of the established scientific institution in 1957, the department of electrochemistry is separated,headed by A. N. Frumkin, which will later be transformed into an independent institute. For 48 years, the two organizations have existed independently, after which they become a single structure in 2005. Research areas
As in any organization supervised by the Academy of Sciences, the work carried out by IFCE RAS is fundamental. They include research in:
- nano- and supramolecular systems;
- corrosion and development of anti-corrosion protection;
- colloidal chemistry and adsorption processes;
- electrochemistry;
- radiochemistry and the problems of developing new ways of processing radioactive waste.
The organization has its own web resource on the Internet. It contains the results of some implemented projects, published in the form of articles. As follows from the information presented on the official website, the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences maintains ties with leading scientific organizations and universities in Russia and other countries, fulfills state orders on behalf of the Ministries of Defense and the Ministry of Atomic Energy.

The scientific organization is located in Moscow, it occupies four buildings. Two of them are located on Leninsky Prospekt (house number 31, buildings No. 4 and 5), two more - on Obruchev Street (house number 40, building 1). The fourth building, located closer to Leninsky Prospekt, is the main building of the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
