Surely everyone has heard of such a beautiful country as Croatia. It is located in the south of Central Europe. The total population is just over 4 million people. It is she who helps to see all the charm of this territory. Of course, the presence of the sea coast plays a significant role in the development of the country.
This article will take a tour of some famous settlements, that is, important cities of Croatia are described. These are Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Dubrovnik, Pula and Makarska. Many of them are major economic and industrial areas.
Zagreb
The capital of Croatia is Zagreb. It is a city rich in history and culture. It has accumulated over 900 years. The city of Zagreb itself was founded in 1094. And during this period, the very first mention of this settlement appeared. Then the king of Hungary asserted his power onhill Kaptol. There were two inhabited areas called Kaptol and Hradec. Now they are part of Zagreb.
The climate of the city is usually continental. The average temperature in summer does not exceed 23 °С, and in winter it does not fall below 0°С. However, the hottest month is May. Autumn, as in all countries with a continental climate, is rainy. Winter is characterized by snowfall.
There are many amazing sights in Zagreb: Lotrscak Tower, Ban Josip Jelacic and King Tomislav Square. The latter is the largest district of Zagreb. Split

It is located between cities such as Dubrovnik and Zadar. There was an interesting moment in its history: once Split was the capital of one of the colonies of the Roman province - Salona.
The city center is of historical value. This area has become a UNESCO heritage. The main attraction of Split is Diocletian's Palace. This building dates back to 305 BC. e. The area of this building covers approximately 3 hectares. Split is the city where the shooting of the popular series Gamethrones.”
Rijeka
Two cities have already been considered, the third one is next. It's about Rieka. It is a port in Croatia. It occupies the 3rd place in the country in terms of area. Rijeka is one of the few large cities in the country where the majority of Croats live. It is located in the Gulf of Riech, where the river of the same name flows into. The latter, in turn, is part of the Kvarner Gulf of the Adriatic Sea. Therefore, the name of the city literally translates as "river".
People lived in this area for a long time, as the settlements found here belong to the Neolithic (New Stone Age). The city of Rijeka has plenty of interesting architecture, but the locality itself is considered to be a landmark. You can highlight such monuments as the Croatian National Theater named after Ivan Zajc and the Modelo Palace.
Dubrovnik
Everyone has heard of such a magnificent resort as Dubrovnik. It is the dream of any tourist. A city with a small population (just over 42 thousand people), but with a huge influx of tourists every day. Dubrovnik is surrounded by a fortress and stands on the edge of a cliff, it is also a UNESCO heritage. Its origin was recorded as early as the 7th century. A distinctive feature of this Croatian city is the Old District. Houses with red tiles are also a symbol of Dubrovnik. The old city is a mock-up of the Middle Ages and life during this period. Dubrovnik is just full of attractions. These include Stradun, the Prince's Palace, the Pile Gate, Lodge Square, the City Harbor - handiworkhuman, intertwined with nature, and much more.
Pula
The next city with an interesting name is Pula. It is located on the Istrian peninsula, which is located in the Adriatic Sea. Unlike Rijeka, the inhabitants of the city of Pula are multinational. Historically, this settlement was of great strategic importance; its founders were the Greeks. Various sights testify to the majesty of this city. The most famous architectural monument of Pula is the ancient Roman amphitheater. And this is not surprising, since the heyday of the city fell precisely during the reign of the Roman Empire. At the moment, this building is used for various concerts and exhibitions. The second most popular attraction in Pula is the Kastel fortress, which is located on the top of a hill.
Makarska
Describing the cities of Croatia, it is worth mentioning the settlement of Makarska. It is also quite a popular resort. Makarska is located in the central part of the Adriatic coast between the cities of Dubrovnik and Split. Judging by history, this settlement is different from other cities in Croatia, as it was inhabited by Slavs - Neretvans. They are named after the river located in this city - the Neretva. As in Dubrovnik, there is an old part of the city with its own sights. This is a Franciscan monastery and the church of St. Petra.
