The Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky State Conservatory is a center for training highly professional specialists. Founded in 1934, at that time it was the first musically oriented university in the entire vast territory of the Soviet Union east of the Volga region, the fourth conservatory in Russia. The institution received its name in 1939 in honor of the centenary of the birth of the brilliant Russian composer. The university received the status of an academy in 2008.
Star names of the conservatory
At the beginning of his career, the inspiring leaders were composers Markian Petrovich Frolov - the first rector, and Viktor Nikolayevich Trambitsky. From the very foundation, the university was supervised by Heinrich Gustavovich Neuhaus. During the war years, famous musicians from Moscow, Leningrad, Kyiv, and Odessa taught at the conservatory.
Graduates of the conservatory in Yekaterinburg in different years are many famousmusicians. Suffice it to name the singers Boris Timofeevich Shtokolov, Yuri Aleksandrovich Gulyaev, composers Lyudmila Alekseevna Lyadova, Evgeny Pavlovich Rodygin, Vadim Davidovich Bibergan, conductors Evgeny Vladimirovich Kolobov, Wolf Mikhailovich Gorelik, folk instrument performer Viktor Alekseevich Romanko.
People's Artists Vadim Davidovich Bibergan and Vladislav Igorevich Kazenin are honorary professors of the university, as are Honored Artist of Russia Dmitry Pavlovich Kogan, as well as Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the department for external church relations.
Musical and creative groups
A number of creative groups operate at the conservatory: 2 student symphony orchestras, a choir, 2 brass bands, 2 early music ensembles. The opera stage of the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Yekaterinburg puts on several performances at once every year, including works that are rare even for large opera stages. The performances were awarded the Boris Alexandrovich Pokrovsky Prize, as well as the Sverdlovsk Region Governor's Prize for outstanding achievements in literature and art.
Research activities
A difficult research work is being carried out at the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Yekaterinburg. This is confirmed by the publication of fundamental monographs and the defense of dissertations, and the holding of scientific conferences. The university is a co-founder of the regional dissertation council and the specialized musical journal "Problems of Musical Science". In addition to scientific and methodological works, works by teachers-composers are published, CDs with recordings of performers - teachers and students are issued.
Teachers provide methodological assistance to musical institutions of various levels, conduct master classes, including abroad. The largest project of the Yekaterinburg Conservatory in 2012 was the holding of such a large-scale event as the “Creative School using innovative technologies of contemporary art for children and youth in the Urals Federal District.”
For applicants
Today, the Ekaterinburg Conservatory offers students education at 15 departments in 6 speci alties. In all speci alties there is a postgraduate study and an assistant-internship. The conservatory has an office of folk music, which has priceless funds collected over many years by student expeditions. The university has a well-maintained hostel, places in which are guaranteed to all nonresident students. The hostel is located at a distance of two metro stations. The teaching staff consists of more than 140 people, 92 of which have honorary titles of professors and associate professors, 6 doctors of sciences, 30 candidates, 53 musicians were awarded honorary titles in the field of art.
The Conservatory is provided with professional staff by educational institutions from different parts of Russia and abroad. Graduates work in a variety of highly professional orchestras and opera houses of the country, successfully perform abroad,lead various musical groups.
Following new technologies
Along with the traditional areas of musical art, the conservatory also pays attention to new ones, with which the activities of the department of musical sound engineering and the studio of electro-acoustic music are connected. The Ekaterinburg Conservatory is the first in Russia where such a studio was created. In 2010, a festival-competition of the international level of electro-acoustic music "Multimedia" was held, dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the studio.
To a large extent, thanks to technical means, such an extraordinary event as the participation of the Yekaterinburg Conservatory in the largest international exhibition "Innoprom 2012", which presents an innovative project in the field of educational and Internet technologies, became possible. A presentation of such forms of education as a master class, an orchestra rehearsal, a training lecture, a web consultation was held online.
