Do you often hear the verb "to see"? It is important. After all, that's what we're going to look at today. Meaning and suggestions appear in the program. On the other hand, whether the reader has experience in this regard or not is not so important. In the course of the story, the truth will still be found.
Meaning
If you repeat the word "see" many times, this exercise can lead to two conclusions:
- The word is clearly obsolete.
- It's impossible not to think that it contains a mockery.
Although, of course, in this case it is difficult to say how pure such an experiment is, because a person who is inside the language still understands the meaning of the word, even if he restores its meaning from the context.
Okay, in any case, let's look in the dictionary: "Behold, see someone directly, with your own eyes (obsolete and ironic)". That is, in modern language, the verb "to see" is a word that, first of all, is used when you need to joke.
Sentences with the word
To understand the last maxim, you need to composeword sentences. So let's get started:
- Pyotr Ilyich was happy to see at the exam those whom he had not seen all semester. To check truants, he wanted to start the exam answer with a question about his personal data - first and last name.
- The father was glad to see the future husband of his daughter, to know to whom he still gives his treasure, his charm.
- If the mayor had started his speech with the verb "behold", it would have immediately revealed his true attitude towards the assembled businessmen, from whom he wanted to ask for financial assistance.
Good sentences with the word in question are not obtained or even invented. This mockery, which is built into the verb, spoils everything. Let's try to come up with something life-affirming for the sake of experiment:
- Mother was happy to see her son's face.
- People saw how children played and were touched.
- The lawyer was happy to see his client in good he alth.
Can you feel the grungy sentences coming out, like crumbs stuck in your shirt? And all because in place of the object of study there should be less "pretentious", so to speak, verbs that are more characteristic of ordinary speech. In this context, "behold" is not what you need. The impression lubricates the ironic connotation of the word. Of course, the reader understands what the point is. At least you can believe it. The meaning of the word "behold" should now not cause any difficulties.
