Definition
Order's sash is a fabric that is used to fit order straps, cover blocks with which awards (orders and medals) are attached to the uniform. Each ribbon has a unique color and pattern and is set by the statute of the award.
What is it for? It is not very convenient to wear orders and medals on a uniform, as they are rather bulky, therefore, special rectangular strips are used for compactness. A person who knows the colors of order ribbons can easily determine by the bar what medals and / or orders its owner was awarded.
History
This element appeared in the 19th century in Tsarist Russia. Then it was wide strips of fabric of a certain color, to which orders were attached. For example, the order of St. A. the First-Called corresponded to a blue ribbon, St. A. Nevsky - red, St. Vladimir - red with two black stripes, St. Anna - red with two yellow stripes, whichsymbolized "the sincerity of the flaming soul." They were worn around the neck or worn over the shoulder, fastened at the back with gold or silver clasps.
Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Armed Forces on June 19, 1943 approved the sash of the modern look.
Production
This product is a narrow colored or patterned strip of fabric with transverse and longitudinal threads. The edges are wrapped. They are made on special looms from viscose or lavsan twisted threads.
Such tapes should "shimmer". Such a moiré effect is achieved by special finishing at the last stage of production - calendering. Moire can be on one side of the product or on both sides.
Use of sashes
Where this type of reward elements are used:
- order strap - a modern device for everyday wear on the uniform instead of medals and orders. They are made in the form of a rectangle of metal, plastic or fabric, and are covered with tape on top. Worn only on the left side of the chest. They have different sizes: veterans wear slats 24 × 12 mm, and the active military - 24 × 8 mm. It is pinned to clothes with a pin or simply sewn on. If a person has several bars (respectively, several awards), then they are all attached to a common substrate in a strictly defined order: the more significant the award, the higher the bar should be;
- order block - 4- or 5-coalmetal plate. On the front side, it is covered with a sash, the wrong side is attached to the uniform with a pin or a special bolt;
- band - a wide strip of fabric or thin leather, worn over clothing. Since the 17th century, the highest state awards have been attached to such a ribbon in European countries. In Russia, there is St. Andrew's Ribbon - a strip of blue silk 100 mm wide, used to wear the Order of St. A. the First-Called;
- St. George's Ribbon - a two-tone moiré black stripe with yellow or orange stripes. It is a detail for the Order of St. Gergius, the St. George medal or the St. George Cross, as well as a symbol of victory and valor. Used as an accessory to the banner of the guards units of the Russian Federation;
- guards ribbon - this two-color ribbon (a combination of black and bright orange) was used in the USSR awards system.
