Many expressions have become an organic part of everyday speech, although if you ask a contemporary about the true meaning of the spoken words, he will think deeply. For most, "nonsense" is any nonsense said by the interlocutor. The definition is capacious, sonorous, it perfectly expresses the speaker's attitude to the discussion, indicates a clear lack of arguments from the opposite side. And it is still unclear: when and how did the expression appear?
