Gubkin University of Oil and Gas is a global research and training center for the oil and gas industry in Russia and the world. With a history spanning over 80 years, the results of its operations account for the bulk of its ever-growing GDP.
Gubkin University of Oil and Gas
The modern university, which attracts many students from all over the world and is the main forge of oil and gas industry personnel, was created on the basis of the Faculty of Oil Industry of the Moscow Mining Academy, which was opened in 1918. In 1920, Ivan Gubkin was taken as a professor at the Mining Academy. After two years of hard work, Ivan Mikhailovich was appointed rector of the Academy. Since that time, the formation of a university began, which guaranteed the receipt of a professional oil education.
After some time, the Soviet Union entered the first five-year plan, which led to the rapid industrial development of all sectors of the economy. Against this background, the oil and gas industry is faced with its main problem - the lack ofqualified personnel capable of producing and processing hydrocarbon raw materials on an industrial scale. In this regard, Ivan Mikhailovich took up the reorganization of the Mining Academy and the construction of an industry university on its basis. On April 17, 1930, a decision was made to create six educational institutions related to the technical profile, headed by the Moscow Oil Institute. The educational institution of the highest category was named after Ivan Mikhailovich Gubkin, for the contribution of an outstanding scientist to the development of people's oil and gas education. He also became the first director of the institute.
The first basic faculties were:
- Faculty of Geological Exploration and Development of Oil Fields;
- Department of Mechanics;
- Department of Fossil Oil Processing.
In May of the same year, another faculty was opened, which to this day is the main one in the oil and gas business - the Faculty of Industrial Economics.
In order to justify the importance of the University of Oil and Gas, the most outstanding scientists were involved in the work, and a design and research bureau was opened in 1931 to coordinate the development of hydrocarbon deposits.
Since 1934, the Gubkin University of Oil and Gas began active work on the development of deposits in the Ural-Volga region: advanced methods of drilling oil wells are being developed, work is underway to increase the oil recovery factor, new installations for the processing of black gold are being built, etc.
For a short time of work (10 years), the university gave the country 1436highly qualified specialists, and by the beginning of the Second World War, the institute had at its disposal: 29 departments, sixteen scientific laboratories, 26 equipped classrooms, a library with a huge amount of scientific literature, a training drilling rig in the yard of the institute.
21st century in university history
Many years of work that was done by the University of Oil and Gas. Gubkin, has led to the fact that today it is the world's forge of personnel. The main players in the hydrocarbon market of Russia and the world cooperate with the educational institution, and graduates of the Gubkin University of Oil and Gas hold high positions in the mentioned companies.
The university continues to move up the rankings compiled by authoritative publications. For example, according to the results of 2017, Gubkin University took 8th place in the list of the best universities in Russia.
Awards
Seeing into the educational system of many countries, Gubkin University generates the best specialists around the world. So, for the contribution to the oil and gas sector of the state of Southwest Asia, the university was awarded the Order of Labor 3rd degree of the Republic of Vietnam.
In 2007, in the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) was opened. I. M. Gubkin. From the very opening, in addition to local teachers, the highest minds of the head university have been working in it. The results achieved have not gone unnoticed. In November 2017, at the celebration of the 10th anniversary, the University of Oil and Gas. I. M. Gubkin was awarded the Order of Friendship - the highest award,established by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Faculties
Today, the university has 11 faculties, which include departments focused on training specialized specialists in the field:
- oil exploration;
- gas fields;
- geological exploration;
- jurisprudence;
- economics and management;
- mechanics;
- pipeline transport;
- energy and integrated security;
- humanities education, etc.
Organizations
The desire of the university and students to be the first and the best in everything, made it possible to organize many circles, clubs, and scientific sections inside the university. Among them, the most famous are the following:
