The state of the USSR officially existed from December 30, 1922 to December 8, 1991, when the countries of the former USSR began an independent path of development. For some of them, it was very hard.
Republic of the USSR
The state included 15 republics. The formation of the territories of the Union took place gradually. The borders of the USSR, which existed at the time of the collapse of the state, were completely formed in 1940, when Soviet troops annexed the lands of Western Ukraine. Geographic location of the republics

If we take the countries of the former USSR, then Russia is most prone to cold weather, more precisely Siberia, the Arctic and the northern regions of the country. In the south (for example, in the Krasnodar Territory), the temperature in winter, and in summer too, is much higher than in the northern regions. The climate in most of Russia is sharply continental.
In the south-west of the former USSR is one of the small republics - Moldova. The southern countries, the former republics of the USSR, which are geographically located beyond the Caucasus Mountains, are Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. They are inhabited by similar, but at the same time sharply contrasting peoples. In Central Asia there are such countries of the former USSR as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. A dry and hot climate prevails here.
Development of the regions of the USSR after the collapse of the Union
After analyzing the geopolitical map, we see several formed groups. The countries of the former USSR today have different political orientations. The leading place is occupied by the Customs Union, which includes Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. The B altic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) have long since joined the European Union and NATO. Recently, European aspirations have been strong in Ukraine and Georgia. Azerbaijan tries to keep aloof, because countries from other regions, such as Turkey, are close to it. Armenia has always remained neutral, but is gradually leaning towards resuming cooperation with Russia. Today, Turkmenistan is not particularly active in world political life. Economically, this state is very rich due to the reserves of natural resources. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are in a permanent crisis, so their level of development is extremely low.
In terms of the level of the economy of the republics of the USSR today, as in the days of the Union, they differ significantly. Undoubtedly, the most developed states are Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the B altic countries and, more recently, Georgia. Significantly behind the above countries of Central Asia.
Sports successes of individual republics
