If these microbes are able to survive in extreme conditions, it would be logical to assume that they could endure similar hardships on other planets.
Secondly, the researchers found that liquid water, which is the hallmark of the existence of life on the planet, is not only on Earth. For example, Europa and Ganymede (satellites of Jupiter) hide large oceans under their icy surface, which are somewhat reminiscent of the earth's. Many moons of Saturn also show good prospects for life. Titan, Saturn's most famous and largest moon, has a mysterious methane sea.
Third, scientists have discovered more than 1800 exoplanets outside the solar system. There may be about a trillion planets in the Milky Way. Every fifth of them can resemble the Earth. Even if 1% of all planets in the Milky Way were similar to the Earth, the numbers would be quite impressive. Therefore, researchers have long been looking for life in space.
Did aliens come to Earth
There is a lot of evidence that extraterrestrial civilizations have already visited our planet in ancient times. Some facts simply cannot be explained otherwise.
Take, for example, the "strange artifacts" discovered by archaeologists. The origin of these objects is clearly technogenic, but their age is estimated at hundreds of millions of years. So, contact with aliens cannot be ruled out. The facts indicate that a meeting with them may well occur. People are preparing to receive a signal from space. For this, a special program was even developed, which we will talk about now.
SETI program
SETI is a common name for activities and projects aimed at contact with aliens and the search for extraterrestrial civilizations. The researchers who work within the program dream of one thing: to catch a steady signal from representatives of extraterrestrial intelligence trying to contact people. In 1989 they adopted a special protocolcontact with aliens, which was supplemented in 2010.
What to do if a UFO has contacted you? Contacts with aliens, of course, cannot be kept secret. However, you must adhere to the following rules developed by SETI:
- whoever detects the signal must first make sure that it is extraterrestrial intelligence, and not human or natural noise, that is the most likely source of it;

This is not the only way Gauss proposed to contact aliens. It is known that he also invented a special device that gives light signals over long distances. It's called a helioscope. Its main function is geodetic measurements, however, with the help of reflected sunlight, the "father of mathematics" tried to establish contacts between aliens and earthlings.
20 years later, Josef von Littrow, an Austrian astronomer who believed the moon was habitable, proposed digging a 30-kilometer circular trench in the Sahara desert. It was planned to fill it with kerosene, and set it on fire at night so that the inhabitants of the moon would notice us. It should be noted that both of these scientists - both Littrow and Gauss - believed that geometric shapes were an ideal way to convey a message to aliens, since the entire universe obeys mathematical laws.
Concentrated light
How can aliens communicate with humans? Contact, according to Charles Cros, can be carried out with the help of light. This French poet and inventor, once seeing faint lights on the surface of Venus and Mars (they were probably some kind of weather phenomenon), decided that this was the light of alien cities. In 1867 Charles Cros wrote"Review of possible connections with the planets", and after 2 years he proposed using a special parabolic mirror to "collect" electric light and further direct it towards Venus and Mars. At the same time, as this researcher believed, the rays must certainly blink in order to get a kind of Morse code.
Kro believed that the aliens would understand that this was a message, not the shining of a star. However, the researcher doubted that such a difficult task could be solved by small mirrors. So he approached the French government with a request to install a giant parabolic reflector somewhere in the desert. The inventor's petition, unfortunately, was rejected, so Kro's poetic dream of contact with extraterrestrial intelligence never came true.
Records of "Pioneers"
NASA launched unmanned spacecraft known as Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 into space in the early 1970s. Their task was to study Jupiter and Saturn, respectively. However, these ships were distinguished not only by their complex technical stuffing. On their sides there were unusual plates made of anodized aluminum. What were they for?
Frank Drake and Carl Sagan, famous astronomers, believed that they would help the aliens understand where the Pioneers came from and why. On the plates attached to the ship, the solar system was schematically depicted, the distance from the Sun to our planet was indicated. In addition, they depicted hydrogen atoms, a man and a woman.
Unfortunately, in 2003 NASA lost contact with Pioneer-10, and 2 years later with Pioneer-11. Therefore, we never found out whether aliens can understand these drawings. Skeptics are still arguing about whether this action was an important scientific discovery or just a waste of money. Maybe the aliens are in no hurry to make contact with us.
Space messages sent by people have many shortcomings. They can be compared to time capsules. Let us recall, for example, the "crypt of civilization" located in the US state of Georgia (at Algthorpe University). This capsule is a room that was hermetically sealed in 1940. It contains many objects, including the script for Gone with the Wind and a beer case.
The crypt, of course, was conceived as a replica of the culture of the 20th century, addressed to the descendants of earthlings. But it, like the intergalactic communication, gives a very vague idea of the features of the era. It is planned to open in 6100 years. Will the earthlings of those distant times understand the movie "Gone with the Wind"?
Marek Kultis explains that for modern inhabitants of the Earth it is not difficult to interpret the schematic images of a woman and a man. However, if the "Pioneer" got to the aliens, they might have thought that a person is just a set of various parts of the body (hair, face, male pectoral muscles, presented in the figure as closed separate figures). Arecibo Message
Almost at the same time as the launch of the Pioneers, astronomers were actively discussing whether it was possible to establish contact with an alien civilization using radio signals. It is known that they are not as strongly affected by cosmic dust as light. In addition, radio signals have a longer wavelength. The same Sagan and Drake came up with a message consisting of 1679 numbers. In it, they encrypted the formula of DNA, as well as the atomic numbers of hydrogen, oxygen and other elements. In addition, the message contained numbers from 1 to 10 in binary.
Scientists November 16, 1974 transmitted from the Arecibo Observatory, located in Puerto Rico, a radio signal with a duration of 169 seconds. They sent it in the direction of the M13 star cluster, located at a distance of about 25,000 light-years from our planet. It turns out that even if representatives of extraterrestrial intelligence receive it, the first contact with aliens will take place at least 40 thousand years later.
Gold Record
The American space agency in 1977 launched two more devices, whose task was to study the distant planets of our solar system. We are talking about the devices "Voyager 1" and "Voyager 2". Each of them was equipped with a golden record on which musical compositions, various languages, sounds of nature were recorded, and there were also images telling about earthlings. All the same Carl Sagan this time came up with the idea of engraving a needle installation pattern on the aluminum cases of these records so that the aliens could reproduce the message. Instructions for converting video signals into an image were also attached. In addition, it was specified at what speed these records should be played.
Today, both of these devices flew to the edge of the solar system. They are the most distant artificial objects from the Earth. Both of these devices are still sending signals to our planet, but we still have not received a return message from space.
Cosmic Call
Zaitsev Arkady Leonidovich, a Russian physicist who studies the radar of asteroids, came up with his own way to make contact with aliens. He has already sent at least 5 interstellar messages, including multi-page ones. Back in 1999, he sent the first "cosmic call" as part of the "Contact Team" project created by the state. This "call" was addressed to four stars at once. Zaitsev's radio message was multi-page and contained the Rosetta Stone. So ufologists call a bitmap, which presents an encyclopedia of knowledge about the world that belongs to humanity.
In 2003 the second "cosmic call" was issued. In its content, it was almost identical to the first, but it contained more information about the people themselves. Both the first and second messages were sent with the help of the planetaryradar. Unfortunately, to the question of whether there is contact with aliens, Arkady Leonidovich is still forced to answer in the negative. But it is possible that the messages will still reach the addressees.
By the way, Zaitsev did not stop at the above, trying to figure out how to make contact with aliens. He came up with the following: together with the team to send another radio message into space, which he did in 2001. To accomplish this task, he attracted schoolchildren from Moscow, Voronezh, Kaluga and Zheleznogorsk. This time the content of the message was very simple. Instead of mathematics and other complex things, there was art: schoolchildren helped the scientist select music for representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations, and he sent a radio wave towards Ursa Major, as well as to five other stars that have solar systems. So when will contact with aliens take place? If we are not alone in the universe, "little green men" will be able to enjoy the works of Vivaldi, Beethoven and Gershwin as early as 2047.
Advertising Doritos
EISCAT is a research institute that in 2008 distinguished itself by a very extravagant act. For six hours in a row, this institute broadcast advertisements for Doritos chips into space. It's funny that the main goal of this large-scale action was to attract the attention not of aliens, but of earthlings. The fact is that the European Scientific Association was severely cut in funding, which is why it was in dire need of money.
The advertisement was broadcast in the form of MPEG-code andcarried out using radar. The target audience for this advertisement was the possible inhabitants of a dwarf galaxy located in the constellation Ursa Major, located just 42 light years from our planet. It is not known how aliens will react to this advertisement. Contacts, eyewitness accounts and opinions of scientists do not give an unambiguous answer to this question. Representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations remain a mystery to us.
