Nora Maria was born on June 12, 1981 in Berlin. Her father is a German director and documentary screenwriter Joachim Tschirner, and her mother, named Voltrude, was engaged in radio journalism. Nora is the only daughter in the family, but the youngest child. She has two older brothers.

Nora Tschirner grew up with two brothers in Pankow, north Berlin. She graduated from the John Lennon Gymnasium in Berlin, where she met her best friend Sarah Kuttner during her studies.
