The modern language is increasingly enriched not only with foreign words, movie quotes, phraseological units, but also jargon terms from different slang. Those who do not move much in specific circles sometimes do not understand what is being said when they hear such words and phrases and often get nervous because they cannot get to the heart of the conversation.
What does "stuck" mean?
This word is often used by young people when:
- Focuses on something so much that everything else ceases to interest: watching the news on social networks, playing online games, reading a particularly interesting book or magazine.
- Watching your favorite TV series, the Vines (mini videos with a funny storyline).
- Watching something entertaining: a fire in a fire or fireplace, a candle flame, a cat playing with a ball, falling snow, a small child speaking his own language, etc.
- To think about one thing for a long time.
When a person thinks hard and does not react to external stimuli, they also say about him: “stuck for a long time.”
Where did this term come from?
The meaning of the word "stick" has a common root with the verb"to stick", as well as the adjective "sticky", which together means "to stick to something". That is, to “stick” in a figurative sense is to stick with attention to some object, action or situation.
Knowing that a sticky object is hard to unhook from oneself, even with considerable effort, one can understand that some people have begun to realize that sticking to worthless things will not lead to good, so they arrange weekly and monthly challenges for themselves: “A month no social media”, “Week without computer games”, etc.
The world of modern society
Most often this term is used as a generalized answer to the question about pastime. For example, "I'm stuck in VK".
That is, a person watches a feed on his page on a social network, perhaps chatting with friends, reading posts or browsing memes, not paying attention to anything else. In other words, getting stuck is fixating on one process, ignoring everything else, sometimes even to the detriment of yourself and others.
Unfortunately, modern people are more and more stuck on meaningless things: watching useless funny videos and photos, glossy pictures in fashion magazines and websites. They play the same type of games like "Farm Frenzy" and "Kick three in a row", without even thinking about the fact that time does not stand still. All these actions have no value in either professional or spiritual development, therefore they are malicious thieves of a small period of time allocated to a person for life.
