Volgograd Medical University is the oldest institution of higher education in the city, it was founded in 1935 and was then called the Stalingrad Medical Institute. Entering the VMU is not easy enough, however, the efforts of today's student will be justified in the future, when he gets an excellent profession.
History of the university (1935-1941)
At the time the university was founded, there was only one faculty (medical) and eight departments. The first students were 172 people, which was significant for the then Stalingrad. 500,000 people lived in the city, of which only 800 had a medical education and could provide appropriate assistance to their compatriots.
The organization of such a university was justified, which is why a number of highly qualified scientists were sent to Stalingrad. Gradually, the number of study places and speci alties increased, and it became possible to formlarge clinical base. In 1937, the first students of the university began working in the regional hospital, and three years later, such an important clinical base was formed at the institute in almost all necessary speci alties.
The University and the Great Patriotic War
In 1941, the life of the entire Soviet Union changed radically, but the medical institute in Stalingrad began to work twice as intensively as before. Only in 1941, the release amounted to more than 650 medical specialists. In parallel with the main training, the teachers were engaged in the retraining of experienced doctors for work in hospitals.
In 1942, the front line came close to Stalingrad. As a result of the bombing of the city, the institute was partially destroyed, several teachers and students were killed. After the Battle of Stalingrad, students and teachers of the university took an active part in its restoration. The institute received a great deal of help from its colleagues from other universities and the People's Commissariat of He alth, doctors from all over the Soviet Union came to Stalingrad to restore the educational institution. The next release of specialists took place only in 1944.
Post-war history of the university
Normal performance of the Institute was restored only after the end of the Great Patriotic War. In 1961, Stalingrad was renamed, the same fate befell the medical institute. Now the name of the city sounded like Volgograd. Volgograd State Medical University - this was the new nameuniversity. Previously, the educational institution was already renamed the academy, but the status of the university gave the university a completely different position.
In the same year, the university received a separate building located on the Square of the Fallen Fighters, this allowed the university to fulfill its tasks in a timely manner. Today, this building houses the main academic building (it also houses the administrative staff of the university). A large number of new faculties appeared, separate scientific schools began to form.
As of 2015, Volgograd Medical University is staffed by experienced teachers, including academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidates and doctors of science, professors and associate professors. In 2013, the university was included in the list of 100 best higher education institutions after accreditation by the Ministry of Education.

Reviews
Students and graduates of the VolgGMU successfully work for the benefit of domestic medicine, many of them receive invitations to work abroad. All those who studied at the university speak quite positively about it, in their opinion, within the educational institution there isa special culture by which its graduates can be recognized. Separate praise, according to them, deserves teachers who are true professionals, always extremely tactful and ready to help students.
Despite the rapid process of reducing budget places, students and teachers of the university believe that this will weed out the flow of those who want to graduate from an educational institution just to get a higher education.
