Many modern and very necessary devices were invented a long time ago. We, the people who use these objects in life, are sometimes unaware that even Leonardo da Vinci worked on their development. The problem of breathing under water has been of interest to man for a long time. The world famous artist, anatomist, engineer and just a comprehensively developed person, Leonardo da Vinci, also sought to create a design that would allow him to stay under water for a long time. Da Vinci was born in 1452. You can imagine what a long history scuba diving has. After all, the diver's pipe was invented by the great artist of the Renaissance.
When Da Vinci visited Venice, the Senate of the city asked him to come up with a device for attacking enemy ships from under the water. It is impossible to say exactly in what year scuba gear was invented, butit was then that the artist developed a special diving kit, which consisted of a mask, two reed tubes and a diving bell made of cork. Air was fed into the tubes through this bell, which floated on the surface of the water. Leonardo da Vinci invented the J-shaped pipe known today. Da Vinci also invented a shoulder bag filled with air. He also created a kind of flippers - only they were intended not for the legs, but for the hands.
Charles Spaulding and Maurice Furnes
Another historical figure who contributed to the improvement of scuba design is Charles Spaulding. He was a confectioner and lived in Edinburgh. But he was also an amateur engineer: Spaulding made many useful changes to the diving bell. He died while diving in Dublin Bay in 1783.
Maurice Fernaise is already a Frenchman who invented respirators, gas masks and improved underwater breathing apparatus. He equipped helmets with a one-way valve, took part in the creation of autonomous diving equipment.
And yet, why is Jacques-Yves Cousteau the inventor of scuba gear all over the world? It is to him that divers are grateful for the scuba gear that is used today throughout the world.
Development of Ruqueroil and Deneuruz
Even in the middle of the nineteenth century, Rookeroil and Deneyrouz tried to createsuch an apparatus that would lower the pressure when diving to a depth. They acted independently and did not know each other. The created membrane made it possible to inhale air from the reservoir, exhale into water. The device turned out to be decent, but still had many disadvantages: it did not become autonomous and depended on hoses through which air was supplied for a longer stay under water.
Many inventors worked on equipment for scuba divers. After all, the whole suit, in which the scuba diver dives, has undergone changes, and the mask, and the spacesuit, and even flippers. Everyone contributed to the improvement of scuba gear. But the main thing is the moment associated with the respiratory system, which provides the diver with air. The well-known French oceanologist made his contribution - he invented scuba gear, which is still used today.
Yves Cousteau and Gagnan
The young officer Cousteau married the daughter of the owner of the Air Liquid Corporation. His wife's father provided financial assistance to Cousteau for research work and introduced him to the company's staff engineer. Together with Emil Gagnan, a corporate engineer, he worked on the creation of an aqualung in which the breathing system automatically supplied air of the required pressure. Air supply occurred at any depth. It was this development that gave the diver comfort and the possibility of a long voyage.
In 1943, equipment was tested on the Marne River. In the summer, Jacques-Yves Cousteau continued to test italready in sea water. After a few more modifications, Cousteau brought the apparatus, which today is called scuba gear, to condition. And the name was patented - Aqua Lung. In many countries, such equipment is referred to as "scuba" - Scuba.
Now there is no doubt about who invented the modern scuba gear. After the publication of Cousteau's book, "The World of Silence", in 1953, the name Aqua Lung was assigned to the apparatus. Air Liquid Corporation now owned the rights to manufacture all types of diving equipment.
Diving Saucer
It became clear about the year in which aqualung was invented, which is used by modern divers, divers. This was in 1943, and it was Yves Cousteau who perfected it to its current state. But this is not the only contribution of the French oceanologist to the creation of submersibles. In addition, he owns the invention of an underwater house, a "diving saucer", he shot an interesting series about the underwater world.
