Chiki Begiristain took his decisive step in his football career in 1988. At the age of 23, he moved to Barcelona. Chicky Begiristain quickly adapted, and it was his goal that became the first in the opening game of the 1988-1989 season. At the end of the year, Chiki became the only Barça player to play in all league matches. Interestingly, Chika's goals brought victory to the team in the first two seasons. In the most difficult matches of Barça, it often sounded “give the ball to Chicky”. And he knew what to do with it. With the club the footballer wonfour titles - the European Cup (1992), the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1989), the UEFA Super Cup (1992) and twice the Spanish Super Cup (1991, 1992).
In 1995 he moved to Deportivo. Sports career gradually faded, and in 1997, scoring the only goal in the last match of the season, Begiristain left Europe. Urawa Red Diamonds became the final resting place of his playing career.
Sports official
In 2003, he returned to the club, but now as a sports director. It was under Chika's technical leadership that Barcelona signed the club's life-changing contracts with coach Frank Rijkaard and players such as Ronaldinho, Deco and Samuel Eto'o. They brought the club back to the footballing elite with their 2005 UEFA Champions League win.
In 2009, thanks to excellent play and thoughtful management, the club led by Begiristain became the only one in Europe to win all the major tournaments within one year. In addition, Barça - the only club in history to score a "Golden Hat-trick" - won the Spanish Championship, the UEFA Champions League and won the Spanish Cup. Begiristain has been the sporting director of Manchester City since 2010.
