Work on the graduation project and its defense is the last step separating the student from the coveted diploma. But even here there are many delays associated with the design of the text and illustrative part of the thesis. We'll talk about this today.

Writing a diploma. Formatting the text part

Unfortunately, at the moment there are no uniform standards, so educational institutions, based on their practice, set their own rules. The project manager simply cannot accept a diploma from a graduate, the design of which does not meet the stated requirements. In addition, the final qualifying work will be kept at the department for 5 years and may well catch the eye of any of the inspectors.

I want to warn you right away that the examples given in this article are taken from various teaching aids, and the rules for issuing a 2013 diploma at your university may differ. Be careful!

So nowMicrosoft Word is the most common software package that allows you to design and print both the illustrative part and the diploma itself. The design, the rules of which we will consider below, focuses precisely on this application program.

First, let's start with the page layout, more precisely the margins: left - 3 cm, right - 1.5 cm, top - 2 cm, bottom - 2 cm. As for the font, Times New Roman 14 size is considered standard here. Please note that all work, including headings, must be typed in one font. You can only change the font size and style. Pages should be numbered, following the continuous numbering from the title to the bibliography and appendices (if any). In this case, the title page is the first page, although the number "1" is not put. Also not marked, but included in the general numbering of the content and the first page of the introduction. Thus, you should start from the fourth page, that is, where the text begins.

The page number is placed in the middle of the bottom margin of the page without a dot.

Design chapters and sections

Each new chapter is printed on a new page, while the sections are consecutive. Chapters and subchapters should be titled, with titles in capital letters without punctuation at the end. Schemes and tables are not taken out into the appendix and are placed inside the text. However, they have a common numbering. Each must be signed. For example: "Table 1", below is its name. The rest of the illustrative material is taken out in the appendices that come after the bibliography and have a separate numbering.

One more point worth paying attention to is the design of the formulas in the diploma. They are signed in Arabic numerals within a chapter or paragraph. Their numbering consists of the paragraph number and the formula, separated by a dot. For example, "1.5" (the fifth formula of the first paragraph).

Bibliography

A bibliography or a list of references is an obligatory element that any diploma must contain. The design of this part, as a rule, varies greatly.

A graduate is recommended to use at least 40 sources containing legal acts, scientific and educational literature, periodicals, electronic resources.
